| MA Senate to Debate Arts/Culture Funding |
On May 26, the state Senate voted unanimously to restore $1 million to arts and cultural funding through the Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC). The Senate budget for fiscal 2012 now matches proposals by both the Governor and the House of Representatives to invest $8.4 million in the arts, humanities, and sciences through MCC.
All three proposals represent a cut of nearly $700,000, or seven percent, from the agency's current budget. Nearly half the 40-member Senate signed onto an amendment sponsored by Sen. Eileen Donoghue of Lowell, Co-Chair of the Joint Committee on Tourism, Arts, and Cultural Development. Further information from the MCC is available here: Info
