TV Party Mar. 24, 7:30 pm, Essex St. Grille |
Sparked by the release of the book "Townie," which is set in Haverhill, Channel 5's "Chronicle" recently sent a crew to film here, including an interview with Team Haverhill Vice-Chair Eric Karlstad. Come over to the Essex Street Grille to view the program with friends and neighbors. Cash bar. RSVP is requested: RSVP This program is one more sign that Haverhill has reached a "tipping point" in terms of visibility and cultural activity. (Even though Andre Dubus III does not currently live in Haverhill, he has graciously agreed to be included among the notables in the Essex Gateway Mural.) |
Mural Design and Keon's Benefit |
MLS Studios presented a further-developed design for the Essex Gateway Mural in February--a small section of which is shown here. The image will continue to be refined through the spring as we prepare for the painting to get under way this summer.
Wine Dinner to Benefit the Mural: At Keon's Sunday, April 3, 6 pm. Sip sparkling wine as guests gather, then sit down for a deligtfully designed menu with paired wines and expert commentary. Your $80 contribution includes gratuity, so the cost is competitive for a fine dining experience. Only a few seats remain, and tickets must be purchased by mail in advance. (When the seats are filled, other checks will be returned.) Please make your check to "GHCC CAEF" and mark Essex Gateway Mural on your check. Send to: Essex Gateway Mural, c/o Tim Jordan, 167 Kingsbury Avenue, Bradford, MA 01835. |
Recycling Flyer Mailed to All Households |
More than 25,000 Haverhill households recently received a special recycling mailer prepared in partnership with the City of Haverhill. Approximately half the cost was covered by Team Haverhill. The mailer is meant to add momentum to our community's recycling progress. Since 2008, recycling collected has increased by 50% (322 tons/mo, up from 214). This saves $98,000 per year because we pay for trash disposal, but we get paid for recyclables (depending on the market for various materials). Our December 14.3% recycling rate is halfway to our 28% goal. Keep up the good work, and keep spreading the word. Info |
Mentoring Opportunity |
Several fourth graders at the Tilton School are still waiting for an adult to connect with through the Haverhill Youth Mentor Network. A new mentor training program will be scheduled soon, and spring is still a great time to begin a year-long, supportive relationship with a child. Weekly meetings at Tilton can be scheduled before, during or after school, and assistance is provided from project and school staff to identify appropriate activities for a particular child.
