About Team Haverhill
It's a Reality! City-Wide Rollout July 5

Mural PanelStarting July 5, residents on all city routes can mix all recyclable materials together for curb pick-up. They can be in any container clearly marked "Recycling" and should go out on your usual recycling pick-up day (every two weeks).

This change fullfills a goal that surfaced at our Possible Dreams community event in January 2008. Team Haverhill's recycling committee promoted this dream tenaciously for two and half years, in collaboration with Mayor Fiorentini, the city's recycling task force, numerous city and state officials, and other volunteer groups like Haverhill Environmental League. Hats off to everyone who played a part in getting it done!

Watch for an envelope containing a letter from Mayor Fiorentini and a brochure with recycling details, mailed courtesy of Team Haverhill to all residents to explain the program. Our videography team is also preparing a Public Service spot on HCTV.
Community Mural, Dale Rogers Sculpture

Mural PanelTwo new works of public art commissioned by Team Haverhill will appear soon downtown. One is a huge mural banner, comprised of individual designs by local groups and individuals (the Girls & Boys Club design is shown here). Artist Emily Boulger integrated 32 individual panels into a digital art work to be installed soon on Wingate Street. The second work is a sculpture called "Away" by Dale Rogers, whose surface suggests the shimmering waters of the Merrimack and incorporates lines of poetry from John Greenleaf Whittier. Unveiling tentatively schedule for August 14, at the River Ruckus event.
Youth Mentoring to Launch in October

Haverhill Youth Mentoring Network (HYMN) initiate will launch Phase One this October at the Tilton Public School, matching twenty-five youth in the Fourth Grade with well-prepared, one-to-one mentors. A Program Director will oversee the recruitment and training of volunteers, and co-ordinate with school leadership in identifying youngsters to participate.

Mentors commit to at least one hour per week over a period of one to two years, to provide the children with a helpful and reliable learning partner. Working closely with our community partners--including the Public Schools, four youth-serving agencies in Haverhill, the United Way, and MassMentors--Team Haverhill has seeded HYMN in order to build long-term civic capacity in support of our city's young people. Prospective mentor applicants can contact Diane Franz and United Way: dfranz@supportunitedway.org, 617-624-8185.
