Dear Sustainable Eiber Neighbors:
As a follow up to my June 9th email about my leadership role for Alternative Transportation, Health & Air Quality in the Sustainable Neighborhood Program, I wanted you to recall that I believe that these three goals can be nicely condensed into two words: Bike Eiber.
As you have noticed by receiving this email, I have clobbered together an email platform from my Constant Contact business account which I use to publish a twice-weekly newsletter. I am not here to discuss my newsletter which deals with transit and sustainability issues around the region, but solely to focus on the Eiber Neighborhood, and what we as neighbors can do to improve the neighborhood sustainability efforts where we live.
In my June 9th email I also mentioned that RTD FasTracks was holding a bike event naming contest for the opening of their bike path that parallels most of the West Rail Line, and that they most likely will give us a date for the event. This they have done, and also have given us a rough route to be taken.
The name of the event:
Tour de FasTracks - West Rail Ride Bike Event
When: Saturday, Sep 08, 2012
Although the event is billed as a "leisurely ride" that will start at the future Oak Street Station parking area and end at the Decatur Federal Station, there also will be a stage for intermediate and advanced cyclists that will start at the Jefferson County Gov - Golden Station and conclude at the same location. Details will be forthcoming, but you can click below to view the only RTD bike path map currently available.
Also below is the background info on the bike path in Lakewood from Sheridan Blvd to Quail Street that I included in my June 9th email.
As leader of the Bike Eiber group, I wanted to formally invite all of you to participate in this great bicycle event and believe that as a neighborhood group we should all start at the Oak Street station parking lot and finish at the Federal-Decatur station area; the distance is about 6 miles. That's not bad for a casual rider like me; trust me, I won't be in Lycra. But of course, you are free to join us at any point in the bike path and leave at any time or place - and of course, wear what clothes you feel most comfortable riding in.
This is about joining friends and family in a great neighborhood event, getting exercise and discovering an easy way to get around your neighborhood. Hopefully, it will also get you started on realizing that, you really don't need to have your butt attached to an automobile seat for every short distance chore.
In conclusion, I am meeting with Lindsey Smith, Public Information Coordinator with Denver Transit Construction Group, on Friday, June 29th to discuss the bike event further. Stay tuned.
I've also attempted to create a separate gmail address for Bike Eiber - I hope it works.
I'll update you on more information as it becomes available.
[note: So far my attempts to create a separate Bike Eiber email address have failed, so just ignore the email address where this came from. If you need to communicate with me, just hit the "reply" button, or send a separate email at: wspriggs2001@yahoo.com].
Have a great week ahead.
