Name the Bike Event Contest
The RTD FasTracks West Rail Line is having a contest to name a bicycle event.
OMG, the RTD bureaucrats are thinking funky and fun? What's next? Profitability? Just Joking -- I know that's a sensitive spot.
But, see what happens when you ride a bicycle? Not only do you know you're performing the most efficient form of transportation, you also have this incredible sense of self-awareness of your surroundings which connects you to the community more than driving a car. And, the best part is that you know you're contributing to what builds livable communities. Nice Idea, RTD! Click here to Name the Bike Event Contest.
Currently, this is the only bicycle path map available for the West Rail Line
>Lakewood, Thursday, May 24, 2012, 6pm.

TheNewYorkTimes.com Operating in the Dark Editorial, May 13, 2012 The Web site of Representative Daniel Webster, Republican of Florida, instructs visitors to click on a link for "Census data for the 8th district" to learn about the area's economy, businesses, income, employment, homeownership and other important features. Nation's Potholes Need a Big Fix By Kathryn Wolfe, May 13, 2012 The nation's population is growing at a steady pace, yet infrastructure investments lag. The lifelines of commerce - roads, bridges, runways, ports - are showing their age, and in this era of fiscal austerity it may be a long time before they get rebuilt.
Grist.org Number of Bicycle-Friendly Cities Soars By Andrew Zaleski, May 14, 2012 Once was that American cities competed to look more like Detroit, with gleaming lanes of highway stretching as far as the eye could see. Any more, it's a race to imitate Copenhagen, the Danish capital where 36 percent of residents commute to work via bicycle.
TheAtlanticCities.com Walk Score Launches Bike Score By Sarah Goodyear, May 14, 2012 Walk Score recently added a Transit Score to specifically rate transit access in 25 U.S. cities. DC.StreetsBlog.org RAND: Car-Sharing Could Cut Carbon Emissions From Cars By 1.7 Percent By Tanya Snyder, May 15, 2012 The brilliant thing about car-sharing is that it leads people to drive less by providing access to cars. It allows people to give up their personal vehicles (along with the gas, maintenance, parking, and insurance costs they entail) without giving up the ability to use the car once in a while when necessary.

Grist.org Clean Energy as Culture War By David Roberts May 14, 2012 Not that long ago, some folks were arguing that clean energy -- unlike climate change, which had been irredeemably stained by partisanship (eww!) - would bring people together across ideological lines. Persuaded by the irrefutable wisdom of wonks, we would join hands across the aisle to promote common-sense solutions. It wouldn't be partisan, it would be ... post-partisan. READ MORE...

>What is the Better Block?
The "Better Block" project is a community revitalization effort that temporarily demonstrates how to improve a street with pedestrian and public infrastructure mixed with art, culture, pop-up businesses and street life. For one day, the project will fill vacant storefronts, create pedestrian seating areas, provide landscaping and street furniture, redraw the street, provide live music, and more. Better Block aims to create quick, inexpensive, high-impact changes that lead to permanent solutions for areas in Denver.
