Greetings!
The first of two Opportunity Project Application Fairs was held on Saturday, March 13 and was a huge success! Hundreds of individuals came to Founders Hall to get screened for the program, and many are well on their way to being matched with jobs in the community.
As word-of-mouth spreads about how quick and easy the screening process was, we anticipate even more applicants this Saturday, March 20 at Founders Hall from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Applicants will be pre-screened at the fair and matched with employers later. Therefore, employers will not be present at the fair.
HELP US SPREAD THE WORD! Share the Application Fair flyer (English and Spanish) with your customers, friends, family and colleagues. Chances are you know someone who is struggling and looking for an opportunity to stabilize their lives. This could be the answer they are looking for.
Here are a few reminders to share with your customers.
Eligibility Applicants must be eligible for TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) in order to participate. They must
- live in Mecklenburg County
- be a United States citizen or qualified immigrant
- meet income requirements (for example: a four-person household must have gross income at or below $3,675 per month)
- be a parent or legal guardian (provide day-to-day care for a child age 17 or younger)
- be deemed job-ready
Customers who are already receiving TANF do not need to attend an Application Fair. Please have them talk directly to their social worker. Items to Bring to the Fair
- Identification (e.g. NC driver's license, passport, Social Security card)
- Proof of citizenship or legal immigration status
- Address verification (e.g. NC driver's license, utility bill)
- Proof of income (e.g. bank statements, tax records, pay stubs)
- Kinship verification (e.g. birth certificate, court documents)
Applicants may park for free at three nearby parking garages (listed below). They must bring their parking ticket with them to the Application Fair to have it validated on-site.
Ineligible Applicants Applicants determined ineligible will have immediate access to job-training resources at the Fair. . You may download a brochure that lists these resources in English and Spanish from The Opportunity Project Web site. Please share this information with your customers. If you would like hard copies, please e-mail DSSRSVP@MecklenburgCountyNC.gov with your name, address and company name, along with the quantity you need. You may also call Sandra Abbate at 704-336-4826.
We are still looking for employers that have jobs to offer participants, all while having the hourly wages fully reimbursed. Maybe that employer is YOU! Find out more information by visiting our Web site or calling our hotline at 704-353-1550.
We appreciate the wonderful you have given to this project, and we hope you continue telling customers and business about The Opportunity Project.
Sincerely, The Opportunity Project Coalition
