Hitchcock Academy
Hitchcock Academy to offer free courses

Hitchcock Free Academy in Brimfield has received a $5,000 grant from Hanover Insurance Group Foundation Inc. in Worcester to offer free classes to residents who were financially affected by the June 1 tornado. Some have already taken advantage of free fall course offerings, among them, in CPR and first aid; language, craft, art and music classes; and instruction in lifestyle change.

Sue Gregory, director of the Academy, said free spring classes will, among others, help residents replant tornado-devastated yards and create kitchen gardens, while a creative writing class will encourage people to process their thoughts and feelings about the storm.

The academy has also received a $14,900 grant from the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts to serve Hampden County storm victims with the same educational opportunity. Hitchcock Free Academy provides educational, recreational and cultural programming for area residents.
