PTO Parent Melave Malka
THIS Motzei Shabbos

Please join our Torah Academy family for a meaningful Melave Malka this Motzei Shabbos at the home of Dan and Sue Kaskel. "We are excited to greet all of the new parents and returning families and have this opportunity to welcome them in an informal and relaxed evening," said Mrs. Kaskel.

Early Childhood Teachers Attend NAEYC Conference

Last week, Mrs. Aliza Askotzky, Morahs Gita Guttman, Lori Applebaum and Perri Plitt had the very unique opportunity to attend the annual NAEYC conference which was held in Orlando this year.

The NAEYC Annual Conference and Expo is one of the foremost professional development experiences in the early childhood field. Each year, NAEYC's Annual Conference features hundreds of presentations and exhibits, and many other opportunities for educators to learn about the latest research, discuss new ideas for professional preparation, and network and share with colleagues.

"Attending the NAEYC conference was a truly inspiring experience on many levels. On a personal level, it was a powerful feeling to be in a room with thousands of educators who view Early Childhood Education as a critical time in a child's life and are committed to maintaining the balance of developmentally appropriate practices while maintaining a stimulating and challenging learning environment," said Mrs. Aliza Askotzky.

Middle School Milestones

Our Middle School students have been taking regular classroom assessments and tests using the Senteo Smart Response System developed by Smart Technologies. This system allows the students to input their answers to a variety of different types of questions on computerized "clickers." The students and their teachers get their scores instantly, allowing for real-time feedback as to how well a lesson was retained. Elisha Burack of the sixth grade remarked, "They are fun to use in class. I like it much better than writing."

Elementary Insights

The Yartzeit of Rachel Imeinu was commemorated through a meaningful assembly hosted and performed by Mrs. Goldstein and the fifth grade girls this week. Their mothers and extended family came out for the production. The girls shared the powerful words and lessons on Rachel through songs, music and a slide show presentation. "It was so meaningful and inspirational to see that the girls are able to express these Torah values and truly connect to our Imahos," said Mrs. Ruth Gibber, great-grandmother of Chana Gibber.

"I always love when I see my children portray the lessons of the Torah in their own words. It makes everything so meaningful," said Mrs. Keehn.

Rabbi Englander's third graders earned their 100 points last week for exemplary behavior in davening and learning. "This solid routine is a way to motivate and encourage the students to be at their best and ready to learn," said Rabbi Englander.

Early Childhood Encounters

The Kindergarten children have entered the next stage in their academic growth as they create their first Parsha book. Using their imagination and creativity, the children will create weekly illustrations of the Parsha. "This will help teach them continuity and they will be able to share their work each Shabbos," said Mrs. Rabovsky.
