Pre-K End-of-the-Year Party

The Pre-K students' end-of-the-year party was a huge success as they showed off all of their learning and talent. The students enjoyed singing for their parents and doing a joint art project with their family members. "Having children of all ages, it is nice to be a part of such a special milestone in Yona's education," said Mrs. Devora Burack.

Elementary Insights

The second graders learned about community helpers as part of their social studies curriculum. Both Mrs. Ali Zak and Rabbi Avi Meth spoke to the students, and they received a special visit from Fireman Frank, who taught the students about fire safety.

As a representative of the fire department he was able to impart the severity of following directions and listening to our teachers during fire drills and instructions. "It is so impactful when an official speaks to the students and shares a larger view of an important issue like fire safety," said Mrs. Engel.

Early Childhood Encounters

In Pre-K on Tu Bishvat we planted sunflowers in our garden. For several months, we watered our garden and watched it grow. We sat in the garden and sketched drawings of our flowers, just like real artists. We measured the height of our sunflowers using measuring tapes and blocks. After Pesach, with great excitement, we harvested our sunflowers that were over five feet tall! We discovered hundreds of seeds in the center of the flowers. After picking and tasting them, we decided to try replanting them.

The EC3 class is learning about the upcoming Chag through marching in a parade with their teachers, playing musical instruments and carrying a Torah. They also headed out on a field trip to visit different Shuls and look at their Sifrei Torah."It is so exciting for the children to see the Torahs and gain a better understanding of Matan Torah," said Morah Revi.

Pre-Shavuos Publication

The elementary students were excited to learn that they have the opportunity to be part of a special Shavuos Publication. Students are invited and encouraged to pick a Dvar Torah, write it up in written form, and edit it and submit it for publication in a Shavuos Booklet being put together by the Boca Raton Synagogue together with other local schools. Students, parents, and teachers will work together to make this opportunity an amazing learning experience for our students..

Mrs. Emily Benni, Writing Specialist at Torah Academy

Mrs. Emily Benni, Torah Academy's writing specialist, completed a writing workshop this week. Through a grant from the Margo Allswang Memorial Fund, Mrs. Benni was able to work with students on strengthening their writing skills throughout the year.

Library Keeps Growing......

Our library is a big success! With a growing collection (now at 415 books) and up to 75 students a week checking out books, we are excited to offer such a diverse array of Jewish fiction. Our final library time was this past Wednesday so be sure to return your books by the end of the school year!

Mazel Tov to Rabbi and Dr. Jay Lyons on the birth of a baby boy, and to his proud siblings, Hadassah, Chaim Hirsch, Shmuel, and Bayla.

Our deepest condolences to Torah Academy's dear friend and founder, Mrs. Rachel Ettedgui on the loss of her beloved sister Sheila Hassan A"H. May the family be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.
