12th Annual Dinner of Torah Academy is February 15th

We are pleased to announce that Torah Academy of Boca Raton's 12th Anniversary Dinner will take place on Tuesday, February 15th.

As we celebrate the 12th Anniversary of Torah Academy, it is especially fitting that we pay tribute to Dr. Jay and Melissa Keehn and Rabbi Ben and Rebecca Sugerman as our esteemed honorees. We are also honored to recognize as Grandparents of the Year, Meyer and Rachel Bluth, and Boruch and Sharon Fleischman. Our honorees share a deep commitment to Jewish education, Torah Academy, and the Jewish Community.

We invite you to support Torah Academy by placing a tribute in the ad journal. The Annual Dinner is Torah Academy's primary fundraising event and the journal is the key to the campaign's success.

Please contact Rabbi Reuven Feinberg at rfeinberg@torahacademybr.org for more information on placing a tribute ad in the journal.

Chesed Day at the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County

Federation Chesed Day was a huge success. Our students were eager to participate in such a meaningful experience. They joined with other Jewish schools in the area and not only created beautiful projects for those in need but the ruach and kindness shared by all was enlightening. "It was beautiful to see the unity between the local Jewish day schools in performing acts of Chesed. A special thank you to Mrs. Marilyn Nachman for giving us this wonderful opportunity," said Mrs. Henna Englander.

Elementary Insights

The Second graders performed Molly's Pilgrim for parents and peers. They were rehearsing for a few weeks and were so serious about their performance.  "This type of learning exercise is so important for their fluency, articulation and confidence," said Mrs. Engel.

"It is always so nice to see her put her heart and soul into a performance," said Mrs. Herschberg, "not to mention that the scarf that Yehudit wore was from her bubby."

"Lights, cameras and action" as the girls fourth grade portrayed many of the main characters and chapters in the novel "There's an Owl in the Shower." The students took complete initiative as they wrote scripts, created props and background scenes, and performed for the third and fifth grades.

Upcoming Events

Mrs. Engel's second graders are excited to participate in our Ateres Zekanim program. They will be performing at Anshei Emunah Congregation located at 16189 Jog Road in Delray Beach on Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m.

Early Childhood Encounters

Parachuting has never been so fun as EC- 2 explores the world underneath the parachute.  Their Morahs sing and tell stories as the children huddle together in the thrill of the ride!

Pre-K and Kindergarten enjoyed the winter weather this week as their Morahs allowed them to explore the school's other recess and play areas.

Art Program at Torah Academy

Torah Academy's Art program is a highlight of the week. Miss Levitan has truly inspired the students with her artistic expression as she teaches the girls how to create centerpieces for a community event. Torah Academy continues to support the Jewish community with its creativity and involvement.

Rabbi Baumann Places New Mezuzah With the Second Graders

Rabbi Baumann taught the second graders about the value of a Mezuzah this week as he shared a lesson on the laws of Mezuzah and its installation. "The children not only helped put it up but they were able to feel it and see the inside of it as Rabbi Baumann explained its importance," said Rabbi Yachnes. Of course, they each kissed the Mezuzah after it was put up!

 Halacha Corner

Q. If I walked out of the Techum on Shabbos, can I walk back? (Dovid Zak)

A. One of the Halachos of Shabbos is that one is not allowed to walk past his or her Techum, past 2000 Amos outside of the city.  Because our neighborhoods are so close together this doesn't usually come up in the city, but in the country it certainly does!

There's many complicated Halachos of Techum, but here are some of the basics:

1. A person can walk throughout his city and outside the city up to 2000 Amos in any direction.

2. If a person was stuck in the desert for Shabbos, he can only walk 2000 Amos in each direction.

But what if you went outside your "Techum?" Then you are STUCK there and can only move 4 Amos from where you are! [O"C 405, 1] (This can happen if a person was on a train that couldn't stop until after Shabbos started; when he gets off he is outside his Techum and is STUCK in the train station for the rest of Shabbos.)

Do you have a Halacha Question? Write it down on a piece of paper and hand it to Rabbi Baumann.
