Our very best wishes to the entire Torah Academy family for a Chanukah filled with light, joy, and happiness.

Early Childhood Encounters

Our kindergartenen and Pre-K students were so excited to show their Chanukah projects as they prepared for Chanukah and for their performance through art and song.

Elementary Insights

Rabbi Yachnes and his first graders always have a spirited davening. They love to dance and sing - especially when it is Chanukah!

The fourth and fifth grade girls worked on their Hebrew writing this week, as they explored grammar and verb tense through learning the story of Chanukah. The fifth graders wrote about self-sacrifice and their personal commitments to Torah as they explored the dedication of the Maccabees.  "My goal through this assignment was for the students to become inspired through the dedication of the Maccabees and better understand how they too can emulate the strength of their Torah values," said Mrs. Meth.

Chanukah Celebrations at Torah Academy

Chanukah performances and celebrations took place all over the Early Childhood this week as each class prepared songs, stories, and arts and crafts for their families. "It is truly a highlight of my year," said Mrs. Lauren Hofstatter.

Parents and loved ones joined the students as they decorated cookies and crafts to bring home and enjoy for the holiday."Their joy of the holiday shone through as they sang songs and created crafts," said Mrs. Devora Burack.

Q. If there's no Eruv, can we hand something from our porch into our neighbor's porch? (Yonathan Goldwasser)

Another frequently asked question is: If there's no Eruv, can I kick or throw a ball that's in the street into my backyard so that I can play with it?

A. To answer, there are 2 types of carrying on Shabbos:

1. Carrying more than 4 Amos in Reshus Harabim (public property).

2. Carrying from one Reshus (domain) to another, for example carrying from public property to private property, or private to public (or even from one private property to another without a special Eruv).

It's important to realize that dragging, pushing, kicking, throwing, rolling, and handing are all forms of carrying! So in all of the above questions without an Eruv you may not throw or even hand into a different property on Shabbos.

Do YOU have a Halacha Question? Write it down on a piece of paper and hand it into Rabbi Baumann.
