5th Grade Girls Class Interviews a Holocaust Survivor

This past Wednesday, the fifth grade girls interviewed a Holocaust survivor, Mrs. Rose Stark from Jerusalem. They had a phone conversation with her as she shared her stories and experiences about the Holocaust and the strength of her Emunah. Following the interview, the girls discussed and wrote letters to Mrs. Stark. This coming Sunday evening, Sarah Meth will be sharing one such letter at the BRS Holocaust memorial dedication, representing our Yeshiva.

EC-2 was working on cutting up paper and strengthening their fine motor skills with Morah Randi this week.  "This is another important step in their development toward writing and other motor skills," said Morah Hodayah.

A trip to White Hall for Mrs. Rabovsky's kindergarteners on Thursday proved to be a day of chessed and creativity. The students created their own pillows and handed them out as they sang songs and engaged in activities with the residents.

Veterans Day was a time for Mrs. Engel's third graders to write essays thanking the soldiers for keeping America safe. The students each presented them in class. They talked about Mrs. Engel's son who served in Iraq. The students all said, "It is Veterans Day - the eleventh hour of the eleventh month of the eleventh day."

The fifth graders performed a skit for the third and fourth grade girls last week as an activity for the novel, Holes. The students created a background mural, wrote scripts and performed scenes from the book. "Putting the play together was so exciting, I really enjoyed the writing and acting," said Keren Galbut. "Watching the play was so amazing and fun," said Sheera Selig, third grade.

The PTO sponsored a delicious day at Yogurt Rendevous on Tuesday. "There were so many students and everyone had a great time," said Mrs. Lindenberg, PTO co-president. It was a big success and 40% of the profits went directly to the Torah Academy PTO.  Yogurt Rendevous shared with us that this was the busiest day they had since a hurricane several years ago.

Q. If we have no more wine or grape juice in our house on Shabbos, and there's no Eruv - so we can't carry and borrow from our  neighbors - what do we do for Kiddush?  (Meira Gilden)

A. For the Friday Night Kiddush, you make Kiddush on the Challos! You hold the Challos and say Kiddush - just instead of the Beracha of Hagafen - you say Hamotzei.

For the Shabbos Morning Kiddush, it is better to make Kiddush on "Chamar Medina," an "important drink" like beer or whiskey (Some say even coffee, tea, or soda).  [O"C 272, 9 - K'shitas haRosh]
