The Margo Allswang Memorial Lecture

The Margo Allswang Memorial Lecture was an opportunity for loved ones, friends and community members to come together to remember and celebrate Margo Allswang and her endless contributions to the community and the Jewish people.

Both Elliot and his daughter Gila shared words of love and thought on Sunday evening. Gila spoke of her mother's warmth and Chesed and how involved she was in Torah Academy and in her growth and education. Elliot mentioned that setting up the fund is a way of perpetuating Margo's memory. "Each day that Torah Academy is teaching children, Margo's Neshama is getting an Aliyah," he said.

Rabbi Mordechai Becher spoke with humor and cause as he shared Torah insights and effortlessly made connections to Margo's life as a wife, mother, daughter and true community leader.

"We are certain that the memorial fund will be an important bridge in honoring Margo's memory and the fulfillment of her dream", said Rabbi Feinberg. For more information on donating to the fund, please call Rabbi Feinberg at 561-347-1821

Irv Geffen of the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County Visits Torah Academy

Torah Academy was honored to welcome its close friend Mr. Irv Geffen, Executive Vice President, Financial Resource Development of the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County.

"The Jewish Federation has played an integral role in the development and growth of the Boca Raton Jewish Community.  Our community and school have continued to grow thanks to the care, support and friendship of dedicated individuals like Irv. We look forward to continue to work as partners in helping build and strengthen the Boca Raton Jewish community," said Rabbi Reuven Feinberg.

Rabbi Mordechai Becher Speaks to the 4th and 5th Grade Boys at Torah Academy

Rabbi Becher also visited our school and spoke to our fourth and fifth grade boys. Faith, trust and loyalty in Hashem were the theme of his discussion. "The students loved the stories," said Rabbi Englander.  "The stories were vivid and interesting for the kids," he added. "The stories were cool and I would like him to come back again," said Avrumi Sugerman, 5th grade.

Overheard at Torah Academy

The Early Childhood staff had a night out this week as they all met at "Imagine That" on Tuesday Evening for a night of painting, schmoozing and staff bonding. "The evening gave us a chance to take a step back from our busy day and enjoy one another's company while building team work and friendship," said Mrs. Askotzky.

Early Childhood Encounters

Kindergarten participated in a "true act of Chesed," said Mrs. Askotzky. Mrs. Lord led her students on a day of chesed at Whitehall Nursing Home. The students delivered their own stuffed pillows to the participants. "It was so moving to watch them interact and share stories and Chanukah songs," said Mrs. Simona Blumstein.

Miss Green's first graders reviewed math strategies while enjoying a fun activity and puzzle. "It keeps the students interested and allows them a bit of creativity as they learn," said Miss Green.

 Halacha Corner

Q. My baby brother's birthday cake has letters that  spell "Happy Birthday" on it. How can we eat it on Shabbos?  Aren't we ruining the letters?  (Anonymous)

A. You're right, one of the 39 Melachos is Mochek (erasing)

.

Here is how you can eat the cake on Shabbos according to the Halacha:

1: You can cut in-between the letters as long as you aren't cutting up the letters themselves. [SS"K  9,48]

2: With your mouth you can eat the letter itself (because that's called eating not erasing) [O"C 340, M"B 17]

3: If the letters are engraved in the cake itself, and not out of icing (like they are in a tea biscuit) you can break even the letters themselves. [O"C 340, M"B 15]

Do YOU have a Halacha Question? Write it down on a piece of paper and hand it into Rabbi Baumann.
