Record Growth at Torah Academy !

Everywhere you go, you hear that elusive word - "growth". Schools across the country are struggling amid the recession to grow their numbers. Torah Academy of Boca Raton is proud to report that with 45 new students, we have record enrollment totaling 180. Please come and visit and see first hand the wonderful gem in our community.

Golf Tournament and BBQ Extravaganza is Monday, October 11th !

Torah Academy's Fourth Annual Golf Tournament and Mega BBQ will take place on Monday, October 11th at the Heron Bay Golf Club. "The site itself is beautiful," said Yakov Lyons. Former home of the PGA Honda Classic, Heron Bay is the perfect place for a round of golf for our tournament. "I am looking forward to the day both, as a golfer and as someone who's goal is to bring awareness of Torah Academy to a broader scale of people," added Yakov Lyons.

Overheard at Torah Academy

Our Early Childhood Meet- the- Teacher Night was held Wednesday evening. Parents attended the event in order to hear about the curricular goals and innovative programming that is spearheaded by Mrs. Aliza Askotzky, Early Childhood Director. "We are very excited about the new academic programs being implemented this year that will take our ECE department to a whole new level," said Mrs. Askotzky.  Through programs such as Treasures Reading, Hebrew Language and High Scope Math, the students will gain a variety of skills and meet so many developmental milestones. The new staff of the early childhood have brought with them experience and enthusiasm and have eagerly become an important part of the Torah Academy family.
Early Childhood Encounters

The three year olds have been learning all about friendships and relationships. "Working together is a wonderful way to teach the children how important it is to share and work as a team," said Morah Revi. The class created a friendship quilt using foam, yarn and a lot of imagination. They also played music and sang songs as they learned the value of friendship.

Ms. Green and her kindergarten class were not only 'tasting' honey from bees, but they learned all about Honey Bees. Through stories and interactive activities they observed the creatures, safely, outside and observed their habits and rituals. "The students are learning about their five senses through observation and investigation," said Ms. Green. Exploring the many textures and talents of bee's and their 'honey' is an experiential lesson.

Elementary Insights

Mrs. Meth and her fourth and fifth grade girls explored the ten days of teshuva with thoughtful questions and discussions. Mrs. Meth engaged her students in an interactive conversation about getting closer to Hashem as we ask for forgiveness. Through music and dialogue she was able to share stories and insights into Torah and Mitzvos related to Yom Kippur.

Academic Highlights

Creating a classroom community was a highlight this week as the Elementary staff explored ways to build motivation and communication within their classrooms. Mrs. Plotkin shared some strategies for engaging the students in the process of building a classroom community and success. "It is imperative that the students, themselves actively participate in the development of exactly what their community will look like."
Pre- Succos Art Workshop

Students were excited to participate in a pre-Succos art workshop with Torah Academy's new art teacher, Miss Sarah Levitan, where they each created welcome signs for the Ushpizin.
