Ah Freilichin Purim!

Wishing the entire Torah Academy family and friends a happy, joyous and meaningful Purim.

Rabbi Shaya Baumann     Rabbi Reuven Feinberg

Torah Academy's 11th Anniversary Dinner is March 9th

Last chance for ads and reservations is this Wednesday.
With the dinner just around the corner, the enthusiasm is felt by all. Parents, community members and faculty are eagerly awaiting the event, ready to express their support and gratitude to the institution's builders and founders. Donations are coming in and reservations are being made for what will be a highlight in the school calendar.

The Torah Academy of Boca Raton's 11th Anniversary Dinner will take place on Tuesday, March 9th, 2010 at Temple Beth Israel in Deerfield Beach.

We invite you to join us in honoring Rick and Sue Andron, Michael and Cornelle Selig, Rabbi Amir and Gita Guttman and in supporting Torah Academy by placing a tribute in the ad journal. The Annual Dinner is Torah Academy's primary fundraising event and the journal is the key to the campaign's success. The Annual Dinner provides vital funds that enable Torah Academy to provide the finest Jewish and secular education.

We have a growing database of local businesses that need to be solicited for ads and there are many others who are not yet part of the database. Please contact Mrs. Penina Flug at 391-7283 or peninaflug@comcast.net for more information.

For more information on placing a tribute ad in the journal, please contact Rabbi Reuven Feinberg at rfeinberg@torahacademybr.org

Amudai HaTorah- A Torah Society

The launch of the new Torah Academy Society has just taken off. Pledges and contributions are steadily coming in and those honored families will be mentioned at the upcoming dinner. "The commitment of these special families in bringing the highest level of Torah learning to our community is exemplary," said Rabbi Baumann. "Their dedication to building our institution now and for years to come is profound and inspiring. We encourage all of our families to participate in this great Mitzvah," added Rabbi Baumann.

For more information please call Rabbi Baumann or Rabbi Feinberg.

Torah Academy Oneg with Rabbi Paysach Krohn

Last Friday night the Torah Academy family joined for an Oneg and dessert reception at the home of Dan and Sue Kaskel. We were honored to welcome Rabbi Paysach Krohn, noted speaker and author, as he shared words of chizuk on Jewish education and parenting.

We are grateful to Dan and Sue Kaskel for coordinating and sponsoring this wonderful, meaningful event.

Rosh Chodesh Adar - "Marbim B' Simcha..."

Dress up has never been so meaningful. As Purim quickly approaches the children have enjoyed exploring who in the Megillah they would like to be. With Queen Esther's and Mordechai's roaming around the school, we have also had ninjas and clowns joining our parades.

"It is always important to tell the story at the right level for the child," emphasized Morah Aliza. "Creating a strong foundation of success is key to instilling a lifelong positive feeling toward learning," added Morah Aliza.

Using a variety of activities for the students including artistic expression, literacy, puppets, dress up, music, and taste, the students were able to explore the many aspects of the upcoming chag.

A Double Siyum

The fourth and fifth grade girls enjoyed Purim songs and snacks as they celebrated completing parshas Miketz and Vayeshev. Singing songs backwards with Mrs. Meth was a highlight of the Siyum and a welcome symbol of Purim. The students brought in various representations of the ideas in the parsha and presented them through candy and treats. The fizzy rolls represented Paroah's ring, the cotton candy represented Yosef's hair cut and the popcorn represented the ears of corn.

"The students enjoyed coming up with ideas for the snacks and it reinforced ideas in the parsha," said Mrs. Meth.

Creative Writing Workshop

The fourth and fifth graders engaged in an intensive creative writing workshop this past week and began working on their book reports. The fourth grade boys began working from the novel, Chocolate Fever. "Beginning the process is always exciting, with the story fresh in their minds they can really grapple with the deeper ideas of story line and concepts," said Mrs. Plotkin. The students began the week by creating character analysis charts and story webs, from that they jumped off into outlines and rough drafts. "We work in class and rewrite constantly," added Mrs. Plotkin. But, the final draft is perfect and that is a successful book report."

"It is a lot of work, but taking our time makes it possible," said Paysach Feinberg.

Take a look at our Purim art!

Early childhood is influencing the elementary school in artistic methodology. Using varied artistic expression and diversified learning the students got creative and colorful as they made their own masks, clowns and Purim decorations. Mrs. Askotzky and Mrs. Englander shared their educational ideas and insights in order to explore a variety of art supplies, tactile learning and tools with the students.

The sense of excitement and joy was felt by all ages as a prelude to the festival.

Carnival Games and Prizes

Shushan Purim Carnival will take place on Monday, March 1st. The entire school will participate in a festive day of carnival games, treats and scavenger hunts! Hosted by the fourth and fifth grade, the younger students will enjoy fun and games.
