Torah Academy's 11th Anniversary Dinner is March 9th

We are pleased to announce that Torah Academy of Boca Raton's 11th Anniversary Dinner will take place on Tuesday, March 9th, 2010 at Temple Beth Israel in Deerfield Beach.

We invite you to join us in honoring, Rick and Sue Andron, Michael and Cornelle Selig, Rabbi Amir and Gita Guttman and in supporting Torah Academy by placing a tribute in the ad journal. The Annual Dinner is Torah Academy's primary fundraising event and the journal is the key to the campaign's success. The Annual Dinner provides vital funds that enable Torah Academy to provide the finest Jewish and secular education.

We have a growing database of local businesses that need to be solicited for ads and there are many others who are not yet part of the database. Please contact Mrs. Penina Flug at 391-7283 or peninaflug@comcast.net for more information.

For more information on placing a tribute ad in the journal, please contact Rabbi Reuven Feinberg at rfeinberg@torahacademybr.org

Grandparents Day at Torah Academy is this Monday

Grandparents Day is this Monday, February 15. We are looking forward to welcoming all grandparents and special friends to experience a day in the life of our students.

The activities will include a welcome from 10:30-11:30 AM with refreshments and an art activity for the children and our guests together. From 11:30-12:00 there will be presentations in individual classrooms and tours of the facility. The students will share some of their accomplishments and express their pride in the school and their relationships with their teachers and classmates.

"This program gives grandparents a chance to spend time with grandchildren in their daily setting and provide them with insight as to how their grandchildren spend much of their day," said Mrs. Alli Zak, event chair.

"Simon Says... "

The Simon Hyman Show came to Torah Academy this week and it was wonderfully entertaining for the students. "Simon" calls himself a "true kid inside". "That is how I relate to children," he added. "Hear what they want and need and then respond with action and experience."

The kids laughed and experienced joy and exercise through the game, "Simon Says." Thank you to the Lyons family for bringing Mr. Sholom Hyman to Torah Academy to entertain and educate the students.

100 feet of fruit rollups!

What better way to acknowledge the 100th day of school than to celebrate it with.... you guessed it... CANDY! "Sweets and treats" was the theme for the first and second grade as they held a party on Tuesday to usher in the milestone in their year.

"The children love innovative and exciting ways to learn. Using candy and sweets to identify math problems and grammar exercises is creative and motivating for the students," said Mrs. Tabor. The children worked on grouping exercises of 100 fruit rollups and jelly beans and wrote journal entries using 100 words.

A Trip to Yeshiva Toras Chaim...

The fifth grade boys have had a very special couple of weeks preparing to learn from their first Gemara. With Rabbi Guttman preparing individual tools and packets for the boys, he has been able to excite and motivate each student to take their learning to the next level. As a further motivator, Rabbi Guttman escorted the boys on a visit to Rohr Middle School in North Miami Beach. Early in the week, the students experienced what learning in a Beis Medrash is like. They even had some chavrusa learning on their own. One of the highlights of the day was listening to stories from Rabbi Yisroel Niman, Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshiva Toras Chaim.

"I really enjoyed the stories that Rabbi Niman shared," said Gidalyah Bronshteyn.

EC-4 getting ready for Purim

Through puppets and song the children in EC-4 are learning the Megillah. Each student is creating his or her own puppets to retell the Purim story. "Through shapes and creativity each child has created characters and themes for the Chag," said Morah Guttman. A big believer of interactive education, Morah Guttman loves the idea of a Megillah that the children can sing through as they hold on to their original puppets.

In addition to creating their own interactive Megillah, the students are also dressing up and singing songs to prepare them educationally and spiritually for the Chag.
