Torah Academy's 11th Anniversary Dinner is March 9th |
We are pleased to announce that Torah Academy of Boca Raton's 11th Anniversary Dinner will take place on Tuesday, March 9th, 2010 at Temple Beth Israel in Deerfield Beach.
We invite you to join us in honoring, Rick and Sue Andron, Michael and Cornelle Selig, Rabbi Amir and Gita Guttman and in supporting Torah Academy by placing a tribute in the ad journal. The Annual Dinner is Torah Academy's primary fundraising event and the journal is the key to the campaign's success. The Annual Dinner provides vital funds that enable Torah Academy to provide the finest Jewish and secular education.
We have a growing data base of local businesses that need to be solicited from and there are many others who are not yet part of the data base. There will be gift cards to local restaurants to the people who sell the most business ads. Please contact Mrs. Penina Flug, at 391-7283 or peninaflug@comcast.net for more information or attend the business committee meeting at her home this Tuesday night at 8:30.

A Lifetime of Learning A big day for the fourth and fifth grade boys: Their learning of Gemara was just kicked up a notch as Rabbi Guttman prepared and handed out to the boys their first Gemara. The Rabbi designed a packet true to the layout and structure of the actual text. "This will help the students gain familiarity with the sefer as well as be able to write and read at their level, said Rabbi Guttman. "Receiving your first Gemara and beginning your lifelong learning is quite a milestone. This is a special moment in our year," added Rabbi Guttman.
A "Novel" idea for the Frohlich Family
What could be more personal than the bris of a son? Avi and Felicia Frolich felt that their children's education was equally as important. Combining the joy of their son, Ailey's Bris, with a donation of books for the first grade was a perfect way for them to combine their personal simcha with their support of Torah Academy.
This week, nine of the students in Mrs. Tabor's first grade began their first novels, Judy Blum's Freckle Juice and The One in the Middle is the Green Kangaroo.
"We were so excited to be able to donate something valuable to Torah Academy. The books are a way to add to the curriculum in such a meaningful way," said Mrs. Felicia Frolich.
"Our goal by the end of first grade is that each child will have been introduced to their first novel," said Mrs. Tabor. Throughout the year, the students have engaged, daily, in the reading process and this will serve to enhance the already established curriculum. |
| Early Childhood Encounters |
Morah Chaya has a Master's Degree in Education, with a specialized degree in deaf education. After several years in the New York City public school system, and working in the area of early intervention, Morah Chaya and her family moved to South Florida, in 2004.
Her second year at Torah Academy, working in the early childhood program, Morah Chaya enjoys bringing her background expertise into the classroom. Because of her work with exceptional children, and a keen eye and ability to access a child's developmental milestones she is able to nurture and work with each child's needs and interests.
"I enjoy story time in the classroom," said Morah Chaya. "With that type of focused learning, we can encourage a love of reading and build each child's visual and auditory skills."
Always eager to increase her knowledge, Morah Chaya is currently enrolled at PBCC in an advanced sign language course. |
| Students' Halacha Corner |
| Q. If I need to take a Tylenol pill, and I drink Orange Juice to help it go down, do I need to make a Bracha on the juice?
(5th Grade Boys)
A. Yes. We must make a Bracha on any enjoyment from this world, even if it's only one sip. The only exception is for water, where no Bracha is said if you're drinking just to help the pill go down.
(The Bracha on water is made because it quenches our thirst. So when we're drinking just for other reasons no Bracha is made. On all other drinks the Bracha is made for the enjoyment of the taste, and you taste even when taking a pill!)
Students are invited to hand in their Halacha questions to Rabbi Baumann. | |
