Torah Academy's Open House is Sunday, January 3

Torah Academy's open house will be held on Sunday, January 3rd, from 1-3 PM. All prospective parents are encouraged to come and learn about our Yeshiva. It is an opportunity at this time of year to highlight our accomplishments and excellence in both our Judaic and General Studies curriculum. We also encourage our parent body to come and enjoy the day of fun-filled activities.

The efforts that have gone into the day are enormous. Every detail has been addressed including activities for the children, such as bounce houses and games, as well as parents encouraged to take a school tour and explore our curriculum. "It is a pleasure to be involved in planning the open house," said Mrs. Michal Marcus who leads the committee, along with Jay Keehn and Rivka Lindenberg.

"An open house is one of the best ways to develop community awareness as well as encouraging new families to take a look inside our wonderful community," added Mrs. Marcus.

Rebbi Alter Visits Torah Academy

The students refused to leave Torah Academy on Tuesday while Rebbi Alter Yachnes, direct from Eretz Yisroel, sang and told stories to the children during carpool. A visit from the well-known Rabbi was due to his son, our very own Rabbi Yachnes, who encouraged his father to join us and share his music and Torah with the children.
Second Graders - Wow the Crowd

Last week was filled with exciting and memorable Chanukah celebrations, guest speakers and Torah learning. One of the highlights of the week's activities was a school-wide assembly. Rabbi Rabovsky shared inspiring words of Torah and the land of Israel and was followed by a production of the Chanukah story by Rabbi Yachnes' and Mrs. Tabor's second graders. Directed by Malka Rabovsky, the children, dressed in full costumes and with beautiful vocal articulation, shared with meaning, the story of victory and sacrifice of the Jews.

"An assembly is a always a great way to showcase the students' interest and talent," said Mrs. Tabor. "Not to mention the fun and excitement they had in putting on a play," she added.

"A core Torah value is to help the needy and to do Chesed," said Morah Hodayah. "And it is never too early to start learning about the Mitzvah of Tzedakah."

Our EC-2 class worked hard to fill up their Pushkah and the entire class took a Tzedakah walk to Rabbi Feinberg's office and handed him all of their Gelt. "Even at the earliest ages we must share with our children the value of giving," said Rabbi Feinberg. "To see their shining, smiling faces while engaged in such an important Mitzvah was the best part of the day," added the Rabbi.

Learning on the Go!

The third graders ventured out of the school last week for a hands-on experience at the Green Cay Nature Center in Boynton Beach. After spending time learning about amphibians and reptiles, Mrs. Silver's third graders were so excited to actually see for themselves how these animals live and survive the elements.

They were able to touch turtle shells and alligator skeletons. Also teaching the children about vertibrates and invertibrates, the students were lead on a nature walk through a natural reserve, where they saw exotic birds and insects.

"The value of a hands-on encounter for children is immeasurable," said Mrs. Silver. "The experience reinforces the lesson in a very real way," added Mrs. Silver.

"It was so fun to touch the animals and see all the different birds and animals," said Miriam Askotzky.

Thank you to all of the parents who happily transported the children and chaperoned the trip.

A Refreshing Reward...

Rabbi Guttman certainly knows how to acknowledge and reward his students for a job well done. As you enter the boys fourth and fifth grade Limudei Kodesh classroom on a certain afternoon you will see, not only attentive students sitting up straight and eager to learn, but they are also motivated by something else....... something cold and frosty, and then you will hear a "slurp!" One of their Rebbe's favorite and most sought-after rewards for excellence in his class is bringing in "Slurpees" from the local "Seven-Eleven."

"It is a great way to motivate and keep the students on target," said Rabbi Guttman. "Not to mention it is fun and brings an added joy of Torah learning to the classroom," added the Rabbi.

"The first time I didn't get one and I felt left out and now I work harder at Davening and I have already gotten it twice," said Ari Cohen.
