Professional Referee Comes to Torah Academy

Coach Gavi Tabor brought in a special guest to inspire the boys in team work and sportsmanship. Professional Referee Robert Goldmacher A.K.A."Coach Goldie", shared his thoughts and advice on how to build a team with the  fourth and fifth grade boys during P.E. this week. "This is another way to reinforce the importance of proper middos on the playing field," said Coach Gavi.

Talk about taking your work home with you! For the past two Shabbos's, Rabbi Mayer and Henna Englander have been hosting his third graders for a Shabbos afternoon party of learning and noshing. "It is always eye opening to see what the kids remember when it is outside of the classroom," said Rabbi Englander.
This was a time to informally reinforce the materials the kids have learned at school. "We reviewed the shorashim and played games," said Noa Berman, third grader. "Not too mention, all the nosh," she added, "We ate cupcakes, cookies, ice cream, spicy chips, soda and lots more," echoed a few of the other students.
Highlight on a Teacher - Who is teaching your children?

A fifth year teacher at Torah Academy with a Masters in Special Ed., Mrs. Nechama Feder varies her methodology to meet the needs of her students. Using computation and critical thinking skills for her math curriculum, she changes her strategies for her social studies and science curriculum to a more kinesthetic learning approach.
Key points to her lessons are reading for information, collaborative thinking, cause and effect, and sequencing. Science is one of the most eagerly anticipated times of day for the boys as they explore their hands on experiments and using the scientific method.
"My students are eager to learn and the buzz of the classroom confirms their enthusiasm throughout the day," said Mrs. Nechama Feder.

 Open -Ended Art for EC-3

For Morah Aliza, art is all about giving children choices and opportunity for their own expression. "We value the process of the activity more than the finished product," said Morah Aliza Askotzky. In addition to the children's artistic expression, the teachers also write the children's thoughts and feelings to add a literacy component to the lesson.

Kindergarten opens a "caring" pet shop.

The Kindergarten class took on a very special assignment this past week. They set up and provided care for all of their most precious pets. Providing veterinary care for dogs, snakes, guinea pigs and turtles; the students were eager to take care of all of their pets. "We loved to bring our animals in to school said," Chana Bronshteyn. "I like to walk the dogs," said Levy Cohen. "Displaying all of their animal art reinforced the ideas we learned about," said Mrs. Ellen Silver. "This was a lesson on how to care for animals and more importantly how to take responsibility for your things," she added.
