Practical solutions - Optimising abilities

Issue No. 9
Greetings!

Spring has sprung and I've already started seeing countdowns to Christmas in shops. Can you believe it's already September?

Last month we welcomed a new staff member to the TADNSW family. Mark Lees will head up our Fundraising team and he is full of exciting new ideas for TADNSW. Read all about him here.

We had a visit by another Japanese University came through this week to learn about our organisation.

Our own Weh Yeoh wrote about his recent experience at the Australian Rehabilitation Assistive Technology Association Conference - including a poor attempt at fancy dress! Check it out here.

The next time we catch up we'll be getting ready for our 35th Anniversary Dinner on October 15. Invitations will be sent out very soon, so make sure you're on the list.

If you're in the Parramatta area this weekend, I recommend stopping by our Bargain Book Sale at Parramatta Farmer's Market this Saturday from 8am to 1pm. We've received a great range of books and perhaps you might find a last minute gift for Dad?

Book sale - sept 4th!

Happy reading!

Regards,

New Director of Fundraising & Communications
Mark Lees
Meet our new Director of Fundraising and Communications.

Educated as a priest, a career in the movies, Mark Lees has had anything but an orthodox entry to fundraising. Perhaps this disparate background though has built a unique set of skills to work in the field of restructuring Marketing and Fundraising departments for charities over the past 15 years.

Some of the students from Shijo Nawate University visiting TAD
Japanese Tour
This week we had a visit from another Japanese tour group, this time from Shijo Nawate University. The group of 17 physiotherapy and occupational therapy students are spending three days in Sydney, touring various health service organisations.

Our own physiotherapists, Weh Yeoh and Brendan Worne spoke about their roles and the how they interact with referring therapists.

The students were particularly interested in the Freedom Wheels Modified Bikes and the creativity of our custom equipment.

We always welcome visitors to our office. If you're interested in coming to see what we do at TADNSW, just give us a call on (02) 9912 3400.

Weh Yeoh presents at ARATA
One thing we try to do regularly is connect with the very people who are likely to use or refer to our services.

This year we secured a presentation spot at the annual Australian Rehabilitation and  Assistive Technology Association (ARATA) Conference in Hobart in August.

Brendan Worne and Weh Yeoh presented their paper on the Freedom Wheels Service, specifically the evolution of the product and service, and how the injection of funding by Amway was able to bring about huge gains in efficiencies and quality.

Adam Gilchrist presenting a cheque to TADNSW.
Amway's Brand Ambassador and loyal Freedom Wheels supporter, Adam Gilchrist presented a cheque to TADNSW last month.

The cheque represented Adam's efforts in this year's Indian Premier League (IPL), where for every six Adam hit, Amway donated money for modified bikes.

The presentation at Amway's Castle Hill headquarters was a great opportunity for Freedom Wheels families to meet the famous Cricketer. It was also a chance for the kids to show off their special bikes too.
