Practical solutions - Optimising abilities

Issue No. 6
Greetings!

As we approach the middle half of the year, there is no shortage of activity at TAD.

This week we received a bright and colourful entry for our artwork competition. The large painting was crafted by one of our Freedom Wheels clients who loves his bike so much that he painted a picture of himself riding it.

His painting is just one of the creative entries we've received for inclusion in our commemorative calendar. Entries close next week, so there is still time to get something in to us. Get the details here.

We hosted two groups of Japanese students who wanted to learn about the role of therapists at TAD.

TAD's Hunter Branch officially opened their own shed. It is the first regional TAD Shed - but hopefully not the last.

In May we are inviting our volunteers and people interested in volunteering to our Volunteer Open Day. We're even running some free talks on the day. To come along just click on the link

Freedom Wheels is in the spotlight again thanks to Adam Gilchrist's challenge to hit 25 sixes to help fund these modified bikes for our clients. Read about his progress.

Plus we're still selling first aid kits and Entertainment Books!

Japanese Students Visit TADA couple of times a year we welcome students from Japan to visit TAD and learn about what we do.

In March we had two different groups visit, consisting of physiotherapy, occupational therapy and nursing students.

The students were here for the week to visit and learn about the role of therapists in a variety of different organisations. TAD was able to show them an example of a disability charity that involves therapists at both a staff level and as referrers to our services.

Hunter Shed
hun TAD's Hunter Branch of volunteers recently celebrated the opening of their own communal shed.

The new workshop provides a space for volunteers to work together on projects.

Together and with the support of local council, they have been able to fit out the shed with a range of tools and machinery.

It is the first of its kind, but hopefully not the last.

Adam Gilchrist hits sixes for TAD
Last year former Test Cricketer Adam Gilchrist met Amway's challenge to hit 29 sixes in the IPL to help fund modified bikes for our clients. The challenge was put to him again this year and so far he has hit 15.

Gilly's goal of 25 is still in sight, but with only two more games to go he'll have to pull in some big numbers.

Amway, who made the challenge to Gilly, has pledged $20,000 to fund 50 bike conversions.
