Practical solutions - Optimising abilities

Issue No. 5
Greetings!

This year we focus on "telling the TAD story" and celebrating 35 years of service to people with disabilities. One man who has been with us the whole way is Bill Phippen, TADNSW President. You can read about his long involvement with TAD below.

We are also showcasing the work of our amazing volunteers during National Volunteer Week in May.

Planning for two exciting events is underway with a Barefoot Bowls event in April and our special 35th Anniversary Dinner in October.

We are still collecting your original artworks for our Commemorative Calendar later this year. There is still time to get those creative juices flowing.

Next week we have a tour of Japanese University students keen to learn about what we do at TAD. While TAD's Hunter Branch will officially open their new shed. These are just some of the many ways we share our story.

Happy reading!

Regards,

Volunteer Profile

TADNSW President Bill PhippenOur long time and hardworking President was recently featured in the Men's Shed Newsletter after they saw the article about Bill in the TADJournal (Sep 2009).

Bill became a member of TAD when it began in 1976. He had been introduced to TAD founder George Winston by a mutual friend, Mary Case, who used a wheelchair after polio as a child. Bill had made a desk and bookcase for Mary and, quite independently, George had made her a bed.

George unexpectedly nominated Bill to the management committee at TAD's first AGM in March 1976, and he has served on it continuously ever since. He has been President of TADNSW since 1997.

Bill Phippen says that in his 33 years with TAD, his greatest feeling of achievement was being President of the TADNSW Board which enabled the organisation to move from its impossibly cramped quarters at Ryde to new $2.7 million premises in Northmead.
