Don't miss it!
There's something for everyone in the family during Family Weekend at UNH! Mascots & J Jordan

If you're into sports then check out the baseball club's game on Friday evening, Sept. 1; football and hockey games on Saturday, Oct. 1. Or if you're into the more intellectual side of things, don't miss out on the Museum of Art or peruse the Dimond Library

Looking for something in between?  Then check out the Dueling Pianos performance or catch the Movies, Friday evening, Sept. 30; the Parents Coffee on Saturday morning; the Comedian/Juggler/UNH Alum Mark Nizer; an Observatory viewing session that evening or come to the Pancake Breakfast on Sunday morning, Oct. 2.  And you won't want to miss the University Picnic on Saturday, Oct. 1.  Most activities are free, some require tickets.

All this and more is going on during Family Weekend!

Our home base throughout the weekend will be at the Whittemore Center Lobby - we will have activity lists and campus maps available in the lobby from Friday evening through Sunday morning.  Friday and Saturday we will also have activity lists and campus maps at the Memorial Union Building (MUB) Info. Desk, and at Dimond Library.

Events listed in BLUE are brought to you specifically by the Parents Association.  Other events are generously sponsored by the departments presenting the events in coordination with Family Weekend.  Take the Family Weekend Survey while you are here (Oct. 1 & 2) and help your students' dorm!

Six 2011 UNH Grads - Their Entrepreneurial Journey: Regaalo Comes to Life
Regaalo team photo

Some parents dream of their sons or daughters becoming successful entrepreneurs as a result of their hard work and money invested in their college education.  This story came true for six UNH 2011 graduates (and their parents) with the development, creation and launch of a company called Regaalo, which provides gifts that connect families with students away from home.  Regaalo makes it easy to send a gift to a UNH Student - utilizing mobile technology.

Regaalo got its start back in December of 2010 when over 100 students met with UNH faculty and the New Hampshire Innovation Commercialization Center (NH-ICC) to identify emerging business opportunities in the convergence of ecommerce and mobile technologies.  Six of those students took the ecommerce and mobile technology concept and worked to create the business model of Regaalo.  Working with their professors and the NH-ICC, the team developed a business plan and entered the UNH Holloway Prize Competition.  Their efforts paid off, winning 2nd place out of 45 participants.  Throughout the spring of 2011, the students continued to develop the business and the ecommerce site to a level where they were able to attract the full time assistance of a former Lands' End executive.

Regaalo is based on the concept that family and friends can order a gift online from a local merchant and a notification is sent immediately to the student's cell phone and can be redeemed right away.  Development swung into high gear after graduation in May when all six UNH students joined Regaalo as full time employees.  Over the summer, there was feverish activity around website development, merchant signup, and UNH freshman parents and students recruitment as customers.  That's right - the target market for Regaalo is university and college students and their parents (there are over 11 million fulltime college students nationwide!).

With the sweat equity from the students, and the support of many at UNH, Regaalo launched its business in late August, and took its first order on August 23rd - roughly 8 months from conception!  After the initial testing at UNH is complete, the team plans to launch the business at campuses throughout the country.

Doesn't a story like this give you hope about the possibilities for your UNH student?  Why not take a look at what these students have accomplished and maybe their innovative concept will convince you to become a Regaalo customer too!
