Greetings!
PictureOfDonI have to come clean.  This is not my best newsletter.  I stayed up last night watching the championship basketball game between UConn  and Butler.  I kept expecting the game to get better but it never did.  What a disappointment.  However, I think you will find some interesting and helpful information in the articles.  I guess we have to wait another year for March Madness and hopefully a good game.

Have a great week.

Definition - Air Permeability

AirPerm
Many nonwoven fabrics are to some degree porous to air. The amount of air that can flow through a nonwoven fabric can often tell us much about the construction of the fabric. ASTM D737 is the standard for air permeability.  This week's definition addresses air permeability.  I have also included links to information and suppliers of testing equipment.

Journal Of Industrial Textiles

JournalOfIndTex
The Journal of Industrial Textiles is part of SAGE Publications. Each quarterly issue publishes research-based articles by specialists on new developments in industrial textile materials (fibres, fabrics, coatings), their properties and performance, processing (including coating, laminating, and finishing), applications, and markets. Each issue also includes a Patents review section.  Read more on their web site.

Bill Smith of Industrial Textile Associates and Dr. Subhash Batra, professor emeritus of the School of Textiles at North Carolina State University are the primary editors of the publication.

Teaching Adults

TeachingAdults
Here are some resources that provide some good information on teaching adults. When we teach production employees in a nonwoven plant, we need to be aware of how and why adults learn. Knowing that will greatly improve the success rate produce employees so they can apply what they have learned to improve quality and increase productivity.

iPad and iPhone for Training

iPad
Do you sometimes get your people together for a 5 minute training session? Wouldn't it be nice to be able to document those sessions so a new employee could benefit from it even though they were not present?  Or maybe you would like to present the same training to another shift, but you can't be there.  With the introduction of the iPad2 it is possible to take video, edit it on the iPad, and upload that video to YouTube or Vimeo so employees can se it at their convenience.

Here is an interesting video

Vimeo has just come out with software for making movies on the iPhone.  Check this out.

Suprise
Sometimes I come across new things that make me say "wow".  Here are three I recently found.  Though these have nothing to do with nonwovens, I pass them along for your edification.

Robotic scoop, amazing video
