If you have been reading this newsletter for very long, you know that I like to keep up with developments related to nanofibers. I came across a company, new to me, that is making equipment. The company is Elmarco and they are located in the Czech Republic. Glancing at the history tab on their web site shows that they have been around for a while. You might like to check them out.

What Is A Smart Phone?
The Consumer Electronics Show was held last week in Las Vegas. The electronics industry is progressing at a pace that is impossible to keep up with. One device that is now critical to our lives and our businesses is our cell phone. Many of you have already made the transition to "smart" phones, but some of you have not. It took me a couple of months of research to learn about smart phones and decide on the one I wanted. I came across an article that does a great job of describing a smart phone. I wish I had read this article before I bought my phone. Check this out.

Term Definition - Packing Ratio
The goal of every nonwoven plant is to make quality fabric. However quality does not stop with the fabric. It also includes the putting up of the fabric into rolls that are well built. This week's definition touches on one aspect of roll building, packing ratio. Your production employees may not know or understand the term. This is a good opportunity to emphasize to them the importance of building quality rolls as you share this definition with them.

Scribd and Nonwovens
I am willing to bet that 90% of you have never heard of a web site called Scribd. I never had until a few weeks ago. Here is how the site describes itself. "Scribd is the world's largest social reading and publishing company. We've made it easy to share and discover entertaining, informative and original written content across the web and mobile devices. Our vision is to liberate the written word, to connect people with the information and ideas that matter most to them." I went to the site and typed the word "nonwovens" into the search box. Try it yourself. There is a wealth of information about nonwovens on this site, including at least one full length book. Apparently the site is also used by grad students to post various presentations they create. Click here to go to the site and then type nonwovens in the search box.
