Greetings!
PictureOfDon
In just a few weeks, it will be two years since I started Nonwoven Tools.  To be truthful, it has been much more work than I expected.  However, I believe I have provided a useful service and I look forward to next year.  This is the last newsletter for this year, as I will take some time off for the holidays.  I hope you have a blessed Christmas and a profitable 2011.

You can review all the past newsletters by visiting the archive site and of course all the definitions are on this page at my web site.

Have a wonderful week.

Nonwovens and Electronics
IMEC
One of these days, someone is going to invent a unique and practical way to integrate nonwovens and electronics.  When they do, they will make a ton of money.  Some research facilities are actively attempting to find that great discovery.  I found an interesting article related to electronics in textiles.  You can read the article here.  While the article itself is interesting, what caught my attention is the long list of organizations participating in this endeavor.  I had no idea most of these organizations existed.  You may want to read the article and follow up on these organizations to see what they do.
Here is an interesting video about IMEC

One of the partners of IMEC is the Saxon Textile Research Institute.  You can find more information here.

Definition Of the Week - Derived Weight
WeighTableThere are several methods for monitoring the basis weight of the fabric being produced on a nonwoven machine.  One is to take samples and weigh them.  A second method is to have sophisticated gauges that can continuously monitor the weight, and another way is to weight a finished roll of material and calculate the derived weight.  This week's definition deals with the last method.  Do your employees know what the term derived weight means?

Truetzschler Restructuring
TruetMgtThe Indian Textile Journal has an interesting article about restructuring of the management team within the Truetzschler organization.  Truetzschler is positioning themselves to produce more equipment for the nonwovens industry.  With their purchase of the John D Hollingsworth wire lines in the United States, they have increased their capicity in the wire clothing business.  Here is the link to the article.

Link to Truetzschler web site.
Quick Class Prep
How many of you would like to hold a training class, but you cannot find the time for hours of preparation for the class?  Here is a link to an idea you can use.  Read the preface to the Accelerated Learning Handbook.  Click on the link and scroll down about 4 pages.  Of course, you may want to do more than read the preface.  You can purchase the book at the site also.

Thanks for supporting Nonwoven Tools LLC.  Don't forget about our other company Omega Engineered Technologies LLC that does needling and needle board repair.

Sincerely,
