Greetings!
PictureOfDon
Can you believe it is the middle of November?  I am looking forward to the first week in December.  My pregnant daughter-in law walked by as I am typing this.  Three more weeks and we hope to have a new grand daughter.  A new birth always gets your attention.  It helps you keep your feet on the ground and realize the important things in life.  Granddaughters are special to their grandfathers.  This will be our fourth.

Switching gears, this week we look at an important aspect of the production environment - downtime.  Do your people have an urgency to reduce downtime?  Print out this definition and encourage them to reduce their downtime.

PS  Nonwoven Tools has a great computer program for tracking and reporting downtime.

Have a great week.

NC State Courses
NCStateShort
Though this newsletter is primarily dedicated to resources dealing with the training of production floor employees, I wanted to give a plug for the training being offered at NC State.  Look at the short courses being offered.  These are offered for the general nonwoven industry, not for those pursuing a degree. Perhaps you have people in your organization who could benefit from attending.

Definition This Week - Downtime
UpDownArrows
I think most of us realize that the most important asset in our plants with respect to availability is time.  There is absolutely no way we can create, purchase, or borrow it.  Twenty four hours per day is all we have.  Since it is such a precious resource, it needs to be managed very well.  Production employees probably do not appreciate the importance of time as they should.  It occured to me that they need to know the definition of downtime, hence the definition for this week.

Nanotechnology and Fibers

Cornell

There is quite a bit of research going on in our institutions of higher learning with respect to nanotechnology.  I came across an article that led me to Cornell University and their department doing research on nanotechnology and fiber.  I though you might be interested in the site and it may be worth checking occasionally to keep up with developments at Cornell.

Thanks for supporting Nonwoven Tools LLC.  Don't forget about our other company Omega Engineered Technologies LLC that does needling and needle board repair.

Sincerely,
