Greetings!
Don1The sky is the limit when it comes to topics for training in a nonwoven plant: raw materials, machinery, web formation, quality, standard operating procedures, etc, etc, etc. However, the topic that has to be at the top of the list is safety.  This week I touch on safety with a definition of the term "safety interlock".  Maybe this is a good time to take a few minutes and review your safety program.  Are you teaching your employees to be safe workers?  With the economy at a low point and budgets strained, we still need to emphasize safety.

If you are new to this newsletter, I invite you to take a few minutes to click on the quick links on the left side of this page.  Not only will you learn about our company, but you will find a lot of interesting information and blogs about nonwovens.

Have a great week!

Tools For Training
ListFigure
I am always on the look out for tools to use for training.  Jane Hart, a Social Business Consultant, and founder of the Centre for Learning & Performance Technologies has a blog that polls readers for the top 100 tools for learning.  She has done this for the past 4 years.  I reviewed the list and found several that interested me.  Many of them are free.  You can find the list here.  She has made the list clickable so you can get additional information on each item.  Voting is open for a couple more weeks, so you may want to check back later in the month to look at the final list.

Term Definition - Safety Interlock
Interlock
Safety has to be a top priority in every nonwoven plant.  This week we look at safety interlocks, a common item on nonwoven equipment. If you remember the first time you ever saw one of these you may have been confused as to their purpose.  Hopefully this definition will help your employees, especially new ones, understand what an interlock does.  Whatever the case, we can never talk too much about safety.

Micrex Microcreping Technology
Micrex
Nonwoven fabric is made using many methods.  The fabrics produced are used in hundreds of types of products.  Some of you may not know there is machinery that can take an ordinary piece of nonwoven fabric and magically change it into something extraordinary.  One type of machine that can do this is made by Micrex and is called the Micrex®/Microcreper™.  They have a good page on their web site that explains how the machinery works.  You can view that here.  Perhaps this web site will give you some ideas of what could be done with your fabric.

Nonwovens and Sustainability
Last issue I presented some information about webinars.  There is one to be held on October 13th, sponsored by INDA and Lenzing Fibers.  If you have never participated in a webinar, why not give this a try?
Are you interested in making good use of natural resources as well as finding ways to reduce operating costs?  Check out this webinar.
