Greetings!
Don1
This week I've been thinking about our responsibility to the production employees we work with.  Do we take them for granted and think of them as just another piece of machinery?  As a company, do we invest in their lives to make them better not just as workers, but as people?  You know as well as I that if a person is not constantly improving they are going backwards in today's world of technology.  Do you want your people to be smarter, healthier, and happy?  What are you doing about it?  If we do not make a conscious effort to improve our employees, it will not happen.  It takes planning, resources, and work to make them better.  Let's get started.

Have a great week.

Definition - Humidification Systems

Last week's definition was relative humidity. This week the definition is about humidification systems.  We look at three methods to introduce humidification into the nonwoven plant as well as pictures to get the point across.  After the definition are some web sites I found while doing research.  I hope you learn something and pass it on.

Training That Works - Math
Math
One ability that is sorely lacking in nonwovens employees is basic math skills.  I see constant quality problems caused by this.  I have found a free video series on the web that is geared to basic math.  Perhaps you can find others.  I have also included links to other math sites.
I know it will take time and money to set up a program to upgrade the math skills of your employees.  However, think of the dollar amount of the loss if an employee makes a mistake measuring the width of the knives on a winder and runs a shifts worth of rolls that are one inch too short.

A Good Article on Bicomponent Fibers
FIT
I came across a good article about bicomponent fibers this week in Textile World Magazine and I wanted to pass it on in case you have not seen it.

Bicomponent melt-spun fibers were first commercialized in the middle of the 20th century, in the form of fibers with sheath/core and side-by-side cross sections (See Figure 1). Very quickly, a primary application for the sheath/core bicomponent cross section evolved: By employing a lower-melting-temperature (Tm) polymer in the sheath and a higher-Tm polymer in the core, these fibers could be used in nonwoven webs to thermally bond the webs together without losing the fiber shape of the binder fiber.   Read the rest of the article.
