Greetings!
PictureOfDon
It was great to see many acquaintances and some of you at the TechTextil show last week in Atlanta.  I was able to learn some things and pick up information that will be useful for future definitions of nonwoven terms.  Since it was tied together with the sewn products show and the ATME-I show, I was exposed to many materials and processes outside of nonwovens.  It is always good to look at things outside of your world to make you enlarge your horizons.

November 10-12 is the NETInc. conference sponsored by TAPPI and the Nonwovens Institute at NC State.  NETInc. stands for Nonwovens Engineers and Technologists Innovative Nonwovens Conference.  It will be in Raleigh, NC.  They have a call for papers that will close on May 31st.  The web site is here.
This caught me by surprise, but maybe I can scratch my head and come up with an idea for a paper.  Maybe you can to!  Don't underestimate yourself.

Several people I have talked with recently were unaware that there is an archive of this newsletter and that all the terms I define are also archived on my web site.  Look at the Quick Links to the left of this article where you can click on the definitions page and the e-mail archives page.

Have a super week.

Term Definition - Needle Dwell Time
NeedleDwellTime
A couple weeks ago, Mike Pate, a needle salesman for Foster Needle, asked me to do a definition of needle dwell time.  Here it is.

Training That Works - The New Generation
Computer
When I purchased my first computer in 1988, I thought I would use it only for spreadsheets, word processing, and drafting.  I had no clue as to what the future would bring.  Do you know that almost everyone in the United States between the ages of 16 and 30 has either a cell phone, an MP3 player, or a Facebook account?  I have seven children and every one has all three.  What does that mean for training in the nonwovens industry?  It means that if you are not using methods they are familial with to train them, you are loosing a great opportunity!

Most employees under the age of 30 have the ability to train themselves using a computer if you supply the training materials to do so.  Are you doing that?  Does anyone in your company have the ability or time to do that?  If the answers are no, you need Nonwoven Tools.

I know I sound like a broken record because I bring this up so often, but we are not doing the job in training.  I did not speak to a single person at TECHTextil that disagreed with me when I said that the nonwovens industry was doing a poor job training production floor employees.  Please help me turn this around.
