A Conversation at IDEA10

Greetings!
PictureOfDon
Well I made it through IDEA10 and I am still in one piece.  It was a great experience.  Wandering around the exhibition floor gave me a real sense of the size and variety of the nonwovens industry.  I was very impressed by the wall that displayed the graduate school projects by the students from NC State.  They are involved in some very interesting research that will produce new products and processes in the near future.

What impressed me most about the show was the number of Asian companies exhibiting.  Unless we go to something like IDEA10, those of us in the US tend to think that the nonwoven industry is centered in the US.  We need to think globally in terms of markets, vendors, and competition.

I spent yesterday tilling and planting my garden, so I have not gone through the big bag of goodies I brought back from the show.  I will get into that this week and provide more highlights from IDEA10 in the newsletters over the next few months.

It was good to see some of you at the show.  Have a great week.

Term Definition - Dancer
TensionRoll
Last newsletter I provided a definition for a dancer roll.  Another method for controlling tension on a nonwoven machine is by using a tension roll mounted on load cells.  Check out the links below to get some good information about using a tension roll.  Then be sure to print the definition and put it on the tables in your canteen.

A Conversation At IDEA10
Handshake
At IDEA10 I spoke with many nonwoven manufacturers as well as machinery suppliers.  I told them that I did not think that production employees were being adequately trained.  Not one single person disagreed with me!

I had a long conversation with one of the large European machinery manufacturers.  He said they do a good job of training the first group of employees in a new installation, but that the employees after that do not receive anywhere near the same amount of training.  He also said that the training materials produced by their company are rather generic and they do not have the resources to customize the training materials for every individual installation.  He said he would welcome Nonwoven Tools enhancing his training materials for a customer.  Of course the customer would need to have enough vision to see that dollars invested in training pay large dividends and reduce downtime and defects.

Whether you are a machinery supplier or a fabric manufacturer, Nonwoven Tools LLC is ready to help you with your training needs. Contact us today.
