Greetings!
PictureOfDon
Last week I was asked to visit a nonwoven plant to check out a processing problem.  I had not been to the plant before and was delighted to find a small manufacturing facility using older equipment to produce a high tech, niche product.  This is what it is about, finding a need and meeting that need.  More power to them.

Next week Is IDEA 10. I will be leaving Monday morning to travel to Miami, so I will not be sending out a newsletter next week. At the show I do plan to collect gobs of material for upcoming newsletters. Have a great week.

Term Definition - Dancer
Dancer
There are several methods for controlling fabric tension between sections of a nonwoven line.  One method involves using a lightweight roll that can move as the fabric gets tighter or looser.  This roll is called a dancer roll, I guess because it dances up and down.  The movement of the roll is translated into electrical signals that control the machine element after the dancer roll.

Training That Works
I'd like you to read this excerpt from an article on Tony Karrer's e-Learning blog.  I hope it inspires you to read the entire article.  Technology is moving so fast that I do not see how the average nonwoven company can keep up with it.

Nonwoven Tools can help with your training needs.

" When a 12-year-old can gather information faster, process it more efficiently, reference more diverse professionals, and get volunteer guidance from better sources than you can at work, how can you pretend to be competitive? When the personal tools in your mobile phone are more empowering than what your company provides or approves for your projects, how can you be saved from devastating market forces? You can't.
The tools we use in life have leapfrogged over the ones we use at work. Business's lingering love of bureaucracy, process, and legacy technology has fallen completely out of sync with what people need to do their best.
So what can you do? Hack work, and embrace the others in your midst who care enough to do so."
