Greetings!
PictureOfDon
Thankfully the nonwovens industry is still growing.  Along with the growth in machinery manufacturers and manufacturing facilities is growth in information.  Some of you may not be familiar with a British publication called Nonwovens Report and the website and blog associated with it. Nonwovens live is the website which presents itself as an online exhibition.  Associated with this is a blog that you can read here. I am adding the blog to my quick links menu.

This week I attended the ISPA (International Sleep products Association) show in Charlotte and enjoyed talking with vendors and potential customers.  It was also good to visit with old friends.  I look forward to attending IDEA in Miami at the end of April and hope to see many of you there.

Please check out the Omega Engineered Technologies page on my website to see some new pictures of projects recently completed.

Have a great week.

Term Definition - Rayon Fiber
Bales
We continue our definitions of fiber this with rayon.  Here are some of the links I used to put together the definition this week.

Definition of Rayon from Wikipedia
Rayon article from Swicofil
Fact sheet on rayon from Ohio State
Making Rayon Fiber from Univ of Tenn
Rayon fiber article from Fibersource

I always recommend that you print the weekly definition on a color printer and place it on the tables in your canteen.  Here is a link to an inexpensive plastic stand that will protect the page from food spills and make it easy to read.
Training That Works - Teaching Adults
Trainer
What teaching methods are needed to teach adults?  Here ae some good ideas I have come across as well as some links for further study.

  1. The primary need in adult education is for relevancy.  Adults want to learn something they can directly apply to their job or life.  They are use oriented.
  2. Adults need to be treated with respect and have their opinions considered.  If they think you do not care, you can be sure they will not care to learn from you.
  3. The older an adult is, the more life experiences and life knowledge they possess.  Take that into consideration when teaching. Draw them out, but you must control the discussion
  4. Adults are more self-directed than young people.  Teach them in a way that includes self study.
Here are some links to more information on teaching adults.
