| Term Definition - Polyester Fiber |
we continue this week with another definition of fiber. This time it is polyester.
This week's definition
I always recommend that you print the weekly definition on a color printer and place it on the tables in your canteen. Here is a link to an inexpensive plastic stand that will protect the page from food spills and make it easy to read.

Training That Works
|
Most of you who read this newsletter are salaried employees. As such you enjoy freedom and security that hourly employees do not. Do you remember what it was like as an hourly employee? How many of you have worked on a production floor as an hourly employee? In every facet of life it is needful for us to look at life from the perspective of the other guy. I am talking about the old "walk in the other guy's shoes" adage. Now that I have focused you thoughts a bit, let me ask a question. When you conduct training do you take time to think how your training looks from the perspective of the trainee? Let me throw out some thoughts they might have. - Is this going to be as boring as the last session?
- I've just finished a 12 hour shift, how long is this going to take?
- Has this guy been out on the floor? Doesn't he know this won't work?
- I've asked maintenance to fix that machine for six weeks. How can I reduce my downtime?
- It's too hot in here.
- She lost me 10 minutes ago. Everyone will think I'm dumb if I ask a question.
- He's been talking for forty minutes. I need the bathroom.
- If I can sit here for an hour at least I'll get paid.
- I don't need this, I've been here five years.
Training production employees at the plant is a whole different ball game than teaching classes at a school. We need to understand the employees viewpoints and needs so that we can tailor the training to them to make it effective. The goal is to have employees that learn and apply what they have learned to produce results. It is our job to figure out how to do that. Next week I'll start giving you some methods to make in-plant training effective.
