Greetings!
PictureOfDonI'll take this opportunity to wish you a merry Christmas and happy new year.  This is the last newsletter of the year as I will not publish again until January 3rd.

During the last few months I have been collecting equipment and materials to update the TV studio in my basement.  That's right, broadcasting to the world from my humble basement studio in Greenville, SC.  I never cease to be amazed as to what the internet enables you to do.  My goal is to put more time in 2010 into producing training videos.  The past year has primarily been a learning experience.  I'll let you know when I have some products to offer.

Have a great new year!

Term Definition - RPM an Surface Speed
HandTachMany production employees are lacking in math proficiency.  To understand how a nonwoven machine works one needs to see relationships between machine components.  One relationship is that of rpm and surface speed.  This week's definition explains how the two are related.

Training That Works
ArticulateLogoIf you are involved in training you have are no doubt using or have used Microsoft Powerpoint for presentations.  Powerpoint can be a great tool or a terrible tool depending on how you use it.  Fifty-seven slides with two main points, each having three sub points, is a sure way to put your audience to sleep.  Many trainers are not very good at using Powerpoint.  Thankfully there is help for those challenged in this area.  Several companies provide software tools that convert Powerpoint presentations into Adobe Flash.  This not only enhances the presentation but gives you more tools to use to add to your presentation.  One of the products I like is Articulate.  They have received high marks from many organizations in the training industry.  The best thing for you to do is go to their web site and investigate the products for yourself.

I suggest that you sign up for the free Ebook they have as well as the e-mail newsletter they send out every week.  This always has tips you can use for creating better training presentations.  Also check out their blogs.  http://www.articulate.com/rapid-elearning/   and  http://www.articulate.com/blog/
EDANA Translation Dictionary of Terms

For those of you doing work internationally, or if you have workers that speak other languages more fluently than English, EDANA has a listing of nonwoven terms in several common languages.  It is an Excel file and I have downloaded it to my site at this location.
