Greetings!
PictureOfDonA couple weeks ago I mentioned I wanted to do more with this newsletter.  This week I am starting a new section focusing on how to train.  I am calling it "Training That Works."  I hope it will give you some tips you can use as you implement training in your plant.

Term Definition - Dry Cans
DryCan
One of the many ways nonwoven fabric can be dried is through the use of dry cans.  They are used primarily in the production of resin bonded nonwovens.  This week's definition not only shows a can, but describes how steam enters and exits the can.

Training That Works
BreakthroughI am going to start this weekly series by introducing you to one of the best books I have read related to training.  The Six Disciplines Of Breakthrough Learning, How to Turn Training and Development into Business Results just gets it right.

The reason I like this book is that it focuses on ways to obtain results, and methods to measure return on investment.  Upper management often looks upon training as a money pit with no way to measure success.  If we are to convince management to commit money and resources to training, we must be able to show the returns.  The six disciplines are:

1- Define Outcomes in Business Terms
2- Design the Complete Experience
3- Deliver for Application
4- Drive Follow-Through
5- Deploy Active Support
6- Document Results

"Finally, a definitive resource on the disciplines required to build learning and development that increases business capability and capacity. This is an essential guide for anyone who believes workforce development is about producing workplace results."
-Susan Burnett, senior vice President and chief talent officer, Gap Inc.

If your are on LinkedIn, you can add the Six Disciplines group to your profile.
