Dear Reader,
There a lot of new and up-coming programs that will be starting this month and into September. Some of these programs include S.C.U.B.A. and a Lifeguard Training class. There is also a survey that has to do with programming in the pool area and I would appreciate as much feedback as I can get. It only takes a few minutes to fill out and will help me plan programs for the fall and the winter. For the survey please click HERE If you could fill it out I would greatly appreciate it! Keep on swimming. Sincerely, Joan Vosburg

joan@fraservalleyrec.org Course StructureSTEP ONE: KNOWLEDGE DEVELOPMENT AND POOL TRAINING
A. KNOWLEDGE DEVELOPMENTThe Knowledge Development portion of Step 1 (PADI
online learning) develops your familiarity with basic principles and procedures.
You'll learn things like; how pressure affects your body, how to choose the best
gear and what to consider when planning dives. You'll complete the PADI online
component and bring all of your paperwork with you to the first classroom session on September 24.
B. CONFINED WATER DIVES This is what it's all about -
diving. During this portion of Step 1 you'll develop basic scuba skills in the Grand Park Recreation Center swimming pool. You'll learn how to set up your
diving gear and practice some practical skills such as, clearing your mask of
water, hovering and sharing air. You'll also do somersaults, hand-stands, make
new friends and have fun playing underwater.
STEP TWO: OPEN WATER DIVES
Here's your chance to show
off! After you complete Step One you,
and the new friends you've made, continue your learning during four open water
dives. This is where you have fun putting it all together and fully experience
the underwater adventure. You'll repeat many of the same skills you learned in the swimming pool, only this time they'll be performed in the open water.
Because your pool skills have been
mastered and the academic material is fresh in your mind, we recommend that you
complete your open water training dives soon after completing your last pool
session. There are several options for
completing Step Two including: - Completing them on one of our scheduled weekends in
Denver (through the fall), at the Homestead Crater in Utah starting in the late
fall or at the Blue Hole in New Mexico at various times of the
year
- On a group trip with A-1
- Taking a Referral to a dive store in the
islands
Please note: There is a
separate fee for your Open Water Training dives. The fee depends on which
option you choose. Please contact Joan Vosburg, Aquatics Supervisor, with any questions or clarification on the information above at 970-726-8968 ext. 112 or email at

August Safety Topic
Importance of Rules
| Rules are meant for the safety of all people in the pool young and old. Most of the rules that we have at the Grand Park Recreation Center are ones that you can typically find at most community recreation facilities in Colorado. Every pool is different and for that reason some policies must be created for the specific lay out of the pool and the community it's in.
The lifeguards are always thinking of the best interest of the swimmer and safety is always the priority. The Membership Handbook that is provided upon obtaining a pass through FVMRD at the Grand Park Recreation Center only touches on general rules and policies. There are now copies of the complete list of pool rules and policies available at the Front Desk at the Grand Park Recreation Center.
Thank you for your support in keeping our pools safe!
