SAF's fabulous Tours Coordinator, Ann Phillips, is leaving us June 16th to pursue a Masters in Architecture at the University of Oregon.  Her sunny disposition, get-it-done work ethic and magic ways with volunteers have contributed to SAF's growth and success.  She will be missed.  We wish her all the best in her new adventure.

Documentary: Modern Views: A Conversation on Northwest Modern Architecture

When: Wednesday, June 2, 8pm

Where: UWTV, Channel 27 and uwtv.org

What is modernism and how did the rugged Pacific Northwest give rise to its own brand of regional

architecture?  "Modern Views" shares the stories of five University of Washington alumni who were
inspired by the lush environment of the Northwest to help create an architectural movement unique
to the area. Learn about the forerunners of economic and eco-friendly design in the premiere of this
documentary brought to you from the UW Department of Architecture and studio/216. This documentary
explores the environmental constraints on construction that are specific to the rainy Northwest. The
climate, terrain and a tight budget were all important concerns for the featured architects and UW alums
Wendell Lovett, Arne Bystrom, Ralph Anderson, Gene Zema and Fred Bassetti.

DRAFT PLAN:Trail to Treasure
In July 2008, the Pioneer Square Community Association (PSCA), with support from the Klondike Gold
Rush National Historical Park, initiated a project to produce a Development Concept Plan to set forth a
community vision for a recreational and interpretative trail trough Seattle's historic Pioneer Square
neighborhood.  The purpose of the proposed trail would be to tell the story of Seattle's early history, the
diversity of people who have shaped the area, the impact of the Klondike Gold Rush, and how these
stories are relevant today.  The ultimate goal of the project is to involve a broad range of stakeholder
groups in producing the plan to achieve concensus and "ownership" for a vision that is embraced by
all stakeholders.  They are seeking your input on the draft conceptual plan.

Please visit the website to review the draft plan and submit your comments.  You may also send your
comments to Liz Stenning, Project Manager.  The deadline for public comments is June 25, 2010.  The
final conceptual plan should be available this August.
