Planning to Attend Ochsner Lecture This Saturday? |
What: The History of Seattle Architecture
Part II, 1945-2010
When: Saturday, April 17, 1 - 3pm
Where: Microsoft Auditorium, Seattle Public Library, 4th & Madison Cost: FREE
As you can see, the Microsoft Auditorium was jam-packed for Professor Ochsner's first lecture on April 10th. We hope we'll have every seat filled again this Saturday.
Sometimes success creates challenges. Please be aware that the Library is changing the event arrangements in order to avoid going over the 203 occupancy maximum as we did last Saturday.
People will be asked to give up saved seats 10 minutes before the program begins. The doors will close at 1pm and if all the seats are filled, no one else will be allowed into the auditorium. If the seats are not filled at 1pm the Library will allow more people to enter through the Children's area door until 1:30 and then close access. No one will be allowed to sit or stand on the stairs.
Co-sponsored by the Hugh & Jane Ferguson Seattle Room at the Seattle Central Library |

We are currently accepting submissions! Click here to download the entry form and guidelines.
The design profession has suffered greatly this past year with layoffs, budget cuts and projects put on hold indefinitely. We believe these archived ideas, projects and dreams deserve to see the light of day. This year's model exhibit Hope is dedicated to all the un-built work waiting for its debut. We may not be able to fix the economy, but we can collectively celebrate what will someday become a part of our built world. |

Renewable City: Call for Ideas to Repurpose Vacant Urban Spaces Ideas selected by AIA Seattle will be published in the August/September issue of Forum magazine. Deadline for submissions: Friday, May 14, 2010
We are living a new economic paradigm, with profound impacts on our built environment. To what creative uses can we put vacant or underutilized buildings? Can partially constructed projects contribute to, rather than diminish, our neighborhoods? Are there more constructive uses for vacant lots than just another parking lot? How might we rethink outmoded infrastructure? How does the new economy create opportunities for lean, fresh solutions to our urban problems?
AIA Seattle's Forum magazine is seeking illustrated ideas that repurpose or rethink underused or vacant spaces of all kinds for its upcoming issue, "Coming Out of the Curve." We challenge designers and artists to think boldly about innovative approaches to underutilized land, buildings or infrastructure.
Send a 72dpi jpeg with a 100 word synopsis to Isla McKetta at imcketta@aiaseattle.org by May 14. JPGs should be at least 8.5"x9". We cannot accept previously published images. If your idea is selected, a 300 dpi version will be requested. Click here for more information.
