| Central Waterfront:
Shifting Tides at Seattle's Front Door |

Experts engage in a "what if" scenario of the central waterfront once the Alaskan Way Viaduct is replaced and the challenges and opportunities for redevelopment along the way. Walk and talk with experts as they examine the past, present and future of Seattle's seawall including a description of the State, County and City efforts, a detailed description of the challenges and opportunities along the waterfront, and the proposed framework for its future redevelopment.
Lead guide Cristina Bump, architectural designer at Mithun, is the recipient of the AIA Emerging Professionals Travel Scholarship; her research includes seawalls in Sydney, Melbourne and Vancouver, and the impact alternative approaches can have on urban development and natural habitat. When: Saturday, January 30, beginning at 10am Where: SAF office and gallery, 1333 5th Avenue, Level 3, Rainier Square Atrium Cost: $15/adult and $10/child ages 5 and up. Register online or call 1.800.838.3006.
 Get your passport stamped and keep your eyes peeled for unique building details. Discover a kid's eye view of architecture and design in downtown Seattle. Tour stops include the 5th Ave Theater, Seattle Central Library and the Rainier Tower. This activity-driven tour and interactive experience is best suited for children ages 5 - 10 years old, and siblings are welcome. This tour lasts about 2 hours. Please plan to arrive and check-in at least 10-15 minutes before the tour begins at 10am. Strollers are not recommended on this tour given the amount of stairs. |

Turn 2-D into 3-D in this unique model making workshop! Using a variety of materials and techniques, young architects and their families will build several types of models in this workshop. Participants learn how architects and designers use models to imagine a building.
Join us for one or both of our popular model making workshops offered during the school year. These workshops are recommended for 8 - 12 year olds. Young architects must register with an adult. Alan Liddle House Tour

Where: 12735 Gravelly Lake Drive SW, Lakewood

Tour Tacoma architect Alan Liddle's Lakewood home overlooking Gravelly Lake, completed
in 1969. The house was designed by Liddle as his own residence and represents
the unique, personal space of one of Tacoma's most prominent architects. He
passed away in May 2009. The house was deeded to the Tacoma Art Museum.
