America's Cardboard Cup Regatta is this Saturday!

Ready for another exciting weekend, McHenry County?!
It's hot. It's humid. But we LOVE it! Be sure to make it out to concerts in the park tonight in Cary  featuring Lisa Rene Band's sing-along dance music (7 p.m. at Lions Park). Next Tuesday in Crystal Lake check out The Flying Fool" featuring juggling, comedy and improv (7 p.m. at Main Beach). We'll be at both weekly events giving away free summer issues. We'd love to see you!


A few of our business partners have some exciting events coming up this weekend. First, celebrate Bastille Day at La Petite Creperie (15 N. Johnson St. ) in Woodstock tonight with live French cancan music, special dinner course menu ($35.50); Absinthe special ($6); special French wine! Délicieux!

Also in Woodstock, Studio 2015 Jewelry will hold its first Christmas in July Sale Saturday through August 7. Buy two pieces, get 50 percent off both items (some items are excluded from this sale).

And don't forget: the 26th Annual America's Cardboard Cup Regatta, which was postponed, will be held this Saturday at Crystal Lake Main Beach. Gates open at 9 a.m. and races will begin at noon. Individual pre-constructed boats can be registered the day of the event starting at 9:00am at the North Boat Launch at Main Beach for $20 per entry. Kwiki boat kit, for participants who want to build a boat the day of the event are available for $25 per kit on a first come, first served basis. Spectator admission costs are $3 per person with a $15 per family cap. All proceeds from the race are distributed to local charities.

Saturday evening, Gavers Barndance is a fun opportunity to help raise money for a variety of cancer organizations including the Family Health Partnership Clinic, Centegra Health System, Wellness Place and Rush Hospital.  Money has also been raised for St. Jude's Children's Hospital. The event will take place at Emricson Park in Woodstock.  In the last 11 years, they have given away over $2.5 million dollars to cancer programs.  Come enjoy this fun and wonderful event by going to www.gavers.org and purchasing tickets.  It's a great way to give back to the community.

Fiesta Days in McHenry
Today through Sunday, visit Fiesta Days at Peterson Park in downtown McHenry for concerts, a parade, children's ice cream social, arts and crafts, and Drum & Bugle Corp. Saturday is the 28th Annual Arts & Crafts in the Park and the parade takes place on Sunday.

 

3rd Annual Shakespeare in the Park Festival

Cary Grove Chamber Garden Walk

Saturday, tour four area gardens and enjoy a progressive dinner and wine tasting at the Cary Grove Chamber Garden Walk from 2:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. "The Garden Walk has been raising money for local scholarships for nine years - monies that have benefited students dedicated to studying business related careers," said Dorothy Miller of Lake Julian Trout Farm, a member of the Garden Walk Committee and a chamber ambassador.  "Our hope is that these same students will one day use their business acumen and skills to benefit our own local communities." Sunday is the 25th Annual Woodstock Folk Festival where you can enjoy a great afternoon on the Woodstock Square featuring live music, open mic, a workshop, children's area and presentation of the 2010 Woodstock Folk Festival Lifetime Achievement Award.

Tractor Trek
tractortrekSaturday, share the day with other antique tractor enthusiast as they travel from Hebron-based Von Bergen's Country Market to Lake Geneva, Wis., beginning at 8 a.m.. Proceeds raised from this event are donated to the Agriculture in the Classroom program to promote agricultural awareness in McHenry County.
