The 4th of July Weekend is HERE - See You Around Town!
Lakeside Festival is in Crystal Lake July 1-5th | BBQ? Check. American Flags? Check. Sunscreen? Check. Sparklers? Check. OK, so you're officially ready for Independence Day weekend - and gorgeous weather is in store!
We certainly hope to see you at Lakeside Festival in Crystal Lake, which kicks off today and lasts through Monday. This huge annual event includes Taste By the Lake (food and beverage vendors), bands (including alternative act Cracker), a carnival, parade, fireworks (Monday at Main Beach), BAGGO Tournament (Saturday) and much more.
When you spot the McHenry County Living float go by at the parade on Monday, give us a wave and a shout! (The parade will begin at the Municipal Building and proceed down Dole Avenue, ending at the Lakeside Festival
grounds.)
At the parade, Sgt. Jason McLeod will be honored
posthumously as the Grand Marshal. Sgt. McLeod, a 2006 graduate of Crystal Lake Central High School, lost his life
in Afghanistan in November 2009. His family will represent him
and ride in the Grand Marshal car in the parade. With all the buzz surrounding fireworks, bands and good eats this weekend, it's a nice gesture to pause and thank those who allow us to enjoy our independence every day. Paula Skweres over at Silver Connections, a free eldercare resource organization, reminded me about this in her recent e-newsletter. She writes: "Remember our veterans and soldiers on the 4th of July. They made Independence Day possible. A quick and easy letter will let them know how much you appreciate their sacrifice."
Enjoy the holiday weekend - be safe and have fun!
