What do you say about your home town?

Many of us regularly come in contact with people from outside our community. They may be nearby friends or relatives, visiting tourists, or business people on the other side of the globe. What ever the situation, every meeting holds an opportunity to boast just a little bit about Sarnia-Lambton.

Lambton County packs a very eclectic mix of interesting, rare, and even unique places, people, and things into its 1,158 square miles.

It's easy to become complacent. We sometimes forget that not everyone lives beside 70 miles of Lake Huron and St. Clair River shoreline, sandy beaches, rare woodlands, working historic oil fields, nature trails, over 50 recreational parks, and much more. Those of us who live here know that the list goes on and on.

We're lucky to live in a community where work and play are never far apart. A recent Facebook post sums it up nicely:

"14 hours and I am off to Sarnia, Ontario for 5 days/4 nites of work and some fishing!" Facebook post, November 16, 2010.

If you are in business take a moment to add a positive note about Sarnia-Lambton to your promotional materials, web site, email signature, or social media pages.

GEORGE_MALLAYWhat's your favourite thing about your home town? Be proud. It's ok to brag a little.

Budding young entrepreneurs have a great opportunity this summer to test the waters of business ownership.

With a $1,500 start up grant and up to an additional $1,500 upon successful completion of the program, Summer Company gives young people a chance to learn first-hand by opening and operating their own businesses.

Starting a business is a big challenge. That's why each participant will be paired with a local business person who will mentor and guide them toward making their Summer Company a reality.

Summer Company is taking applications until May 09, 2011, but space is limited. Interested students should contact Chantelle Core at the Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership, phone 519-332-1820, as soon as possible.

To learn more about Summer Company 2011 check out our Summer Company Facebook page.

PS - If you are a Sarnia-Lambton business person who would like to volunteer as a mentor to a Summer Company student please give us a call.
