News About Cane Bay
New Church Development
The enclosed article about the new YMCA shows the excitement and potential for a new church in that area. Our property is very close to this and right now we are the only church with property inside the development.
Money is tight and our churches are struggling, BUT what an opportunity we have to grow the presbytery and the kingdom! Please prayerfully consider if this is the time to go forward with new church development in Charleston Atlantic Presbytery. As many of you know, Ben Gramling, the developer worships at Johns Island Presbyterian and has been VERY helpful working with Mike Fitze and the unit to get a new church going.

10-50 News From GA You Probably DIDN'T Read
This year at General Assembly, commissioners were wearing buttons that read, "10-50". It was no secret code relating to amendments or overtures. It was a statement about giving and ministry. 10-50 means that every Presbyterian tithes to their church and then every church gives half to mission.
The current reality is every family MIGHT give as much as 1.8 percent and our churches MIGHT give 10 percent. The article with more information is in the October 1st issue of the Presbyterian Outlook magazine.
Imagine what OUR presbytery could do if our members and our churches not only wore these buttons but gave those percentages? Could we start new churches, bring life into our existing congregations, have a vital youth and college program supported by everyone, as well as keep current in our giving to synod and GA????

A Call for High School Youth:
Celebration at Camp St. Christopher
October 19-21, 2012
CELEBRATION is a program adapted from the Pilgrimage model specifically designed for senior high age youth. It is an opportunity for these young people to have a personal encounter with Jesus Christ during a two day retreat at Camp St. Christopher on beautiful Seabrook Island. Former attendees serve and guide the new ones during the weekend retreat. A select cadre of adults called Moms and Dads assure propriety. Churches have been transformed by the enthusiastic young people who had their eyes opened at CELEBRATION as they worked within their church families to act out their faith. God is working through CELEBRATION. The fruit is evident, and the future looks brilliant because of the pipeline of up and coming young leaders for Christ. If you have or know a 9th through 12th grader who is seeking encouragement, insight, and community in their faith journey, I invite you to promote our upcoming retreat October 19 - 21 to them and provide whatever help they need to decide to attend. If the soil of their heart is fertile and soft, or maybe even a little shallow and crusty, God can use this brief 2-day event to change them dramatically.
Participant and Staff Applications are available at http://sccelebration.weebly.com/. For more information, please contact Mike Allen, Celebration Coordinator (843-200-1899)

Mark Your Calendars
for the Next Acts 16:5 Meeting

Stan Ott will return to our presbytery on Monday, October 29th at St. Andrews Church for a seminar on Generosity, and all churches in the presbytery are invited to attend. Information about the topic is listed below. In addition to our Acts16:5 churches, all teaching and ruling elders, stewardship chairs and others interested are invited to attend.
GROWING A GENEROUS CONGREGATION
Generosity is the outward expression of the grace-filled life and is a mark of the growing Christian. We live in a time in which people feel considerable anxiety concerning their money and the five ways to use it: spending it, saving it, giving it, paying debt with it and paying taxes with it.
Money touches us at the point of our sense of security as few other matters do. It's personal. Sometimes we face serious financial obligations. We all have a variety of opportunities to give. When a person understands the biblical framework for the management of their finances and adjusts their life accordingly, there is freedom within one's heart to respond or not to respond to new giving opportunities as our Lord leads.
We are all aware that there are two related considerations in growing a generous people: the need of the giver to give as a personal expression of discipleship and the need of the congregation to receive in order to meet its financial obligations.
In this seminar we will explore:
- Four biblical guidelines for giving
- Steps to bring our giving house in order
- What motivates generosity
- Four kinds of stewardship campaigns
- The roles and responsibilities of the Stewardship Ministry Team
