Check These Out! New Resources in the CAP Resource Center
The Church Transforming: What's Next for the Reformed Project? by Michael Jinkins - The author "argues that being a Reformed Christian means not so much that one espouses certain doctrines or share a particular interpretation of the Bible but that one has committed oneself to being involved in a certain kind of project: the project of renewing the faith according to the Word of God." (from the "Introduction" of The Church Transforming) Holding on to the foundations of what it means to be Reformed, the author helps us understand how our tradition will carry the church into the future. There are no questions for reflection or study included, but in your reading, you will not find it difficult to come up with points to discuss.
Parallel Lives of Jesus: A Guide to the Four Gospels by Edward Adams - The author demonstrates how the four canonical Gospels function separately as unique accounts of Jesus' life and as narrative renditions of a shared story. Part one provides introductory information about the Gospels and explains a model for reading them as four yet one. Part two looks at each individual Gospel and its narrative features. Part three provides, through the study of selected passages, a focused look at the unity and plurality of the Gospels. |

Mark Your Calendars
for the Next Acts 16:5 Meeting

Stan Ott will return to our presbytery on Monday, October 29th at St. Andrews Church for a seminar on Generosity, and all churches in the presbytery are invited to attend. Information about the topic is listed below. In addition to our Acts16:5 churches, all teaching and ruling elders, stewardship chairs and others interested are invited to attend.
GROWING A GENEROUS CONGREGATION
Generosity is the outward expression of the grace-filled life and is a mark of the growing Christian. We live in a time in which people feel considerable anxiety concerning their money and the five ways to use it: spending it, saving it, giving it, paying debt with it and paying taxes with it.
Money touches us at the point of our sense of security as few other matters do. It's personal. Sometimes we face serious financial obligations. We all have a variety of opportunities to give. When a person understands the biblical framework for the management of their finances and adjusts their life accordingly, there is freedom within one's heart to respond or not to respond to new giving opportunities as our Lord leads.
We are all aware that there are two related considerations in growing a generous people: the need of the giver to give as a personal expression of discipleship and the need of the congregation to receive in order to meet its financial obligations.
In this seminar we will explore:
- Four biblical guidelines for giving
- Steps to bring our giving house in order
- What motivates generosity
- Four kinds of stewardship campaigns
- The roles and responsibilities of the Stewardship Ministry Team
