Reflections from Rev. Mike Fitze
Things You May Want to Do This Summer
This summer when you MAY have some free time, here is a short list of things to check on:
- Church Insurance - Several of our congregations have switched and saved literally thousands of dollars a year. See what your coverage and annual premium is and then compare.
- Background Checks - Yes, they are a pain, but necessary. Do you have a person or a committee designated to do these and then keep them up to date? Do you have a line item in your budget for this? At $8 apiece, it can get expensive!
- Church Policy Manual - Is your church's completed? Is it started? All churches need to have a policy manual and there are resources to help you. Have you had a congregational meeting to do the things required before the end of this year?
- STEPS Registration - Now is the time to register and get a discount on the registration fees. This is a great event in which every church should be involved! Get more information online today at http://www.capresbytery.org/STEPS.
- Stewardship Planning - If your stewardship season is in November, now is the time to be working on the theme, a goal, and all of the other details associated with Stewardship.
- Get New Ideas for Doing Ministry - Our staff is a valuable resource! Pie was in my study last week and just in a few minutes talking about creative ideas for worship, I picked up some great things to try out.
- Mark Your Calendars to Attend the Ministers' Lunches in your Area of the Presbytery - You will get good information, enjoy fellowship with other clergy and feel more connected to the presbytery
Hope you are all having a wonderful summer. If you need resources, please give Mike a call at (843) 884-1504.

Countdown to Hands of Christ:
Have You Lent a Hand?
It is only two weeks until the first distribution at St James Presbyterian on James Island. That will begin a frantic three week period where school clothing and supplies will be distributed from thirteen sites over sixteen distribution days. It is hoped that over 5000 children will be served in the five county area. Twenty one Presblyterian Churches will participate providing nearly 1000 volunteers during the three week period. We encourage all Presbyterians to participate with us in this program.
Over the next two weeks the focus will be to get the word out to the public so that those families in need of school clothing and supplies for their children in grades K through 8th can make use of this program. Each child will receive two pair of pants, two shirts, two pair of underwear, two pair of socks, and a shopping bag full of grade related school supplies. We need your help is contacting schools, in posting notices on public bulletin boards, in informing agencies such as Department of Social Services, Department of Human Services, Public Housing Authority, Public Health facilities, and any other means of informaing those families in need. If you can help contact Jim Frye at either 766-8311 or 729-2183.
Once distribution starts there are plenty of volunteer opportunities available at the distribution sites. You can either contact the distributing Church or call 766-8311 and leave your name and phone number and someone will contact you. This is a life changing experience, not only for those children and their families, but also for the volunteer who sees the happy faces and grateful families. |
