Lowcountry Presbyterian's
Medical Equipment Lending Closet
Medical EquipmentWould an abundant supply of medical equipment (like crutches, wheelchairs, walkers, etc.) benefit the people living in your community? Of course, the answer is "yes."  Whether it's just a short-term health situation or something more extensive, there is always a need to have such equipment available. The choices for people are either to purchase the needed item(s), or be able to borrow it from a local source.

The Lowcountry Presbyterian Church in Bluffton has had just such a medical lending closet for almost the past 20 years, and have provided such equipment on a loan basis to several thousand people in need during that time. We continue to have more equipment than we need, and would like to help another church in another community set up just such a program of assistance to help those people. Please contact us at 843-815-6570 or www.lpcoffice1@hargray.com if we might help your church set up a medical lending closet in your community.

A Laboratory for Creative Mission:
Innovative Worshiping Communities
are Flourishing Throughout Pittsburgh Presbytery

by Sue Washburn

Today CoverSome call themselves churches, while others use the name community or fellowship. Some worship in French, others in Vietnamese. Some use formal language in their liturgy; in others, words like "dude" are sprinkled liberally throughout both worship and fellowship gatherings. In all their variety, the vibrant new faith communities emerging throughout Pittsburgh Presbytery have sealed the presbytery's reputation as a laboratory for creative mission.

New churches are like the research and development arm of the presbytery, says Vera White, Pittsburgh Presbytery's director of new church development. It's virtually impossible to find a neighborhood in Pittsburgh that doesn't already have a Presbyterian church or two, yet the presbytery has found that investing spiritually and financially in new ministries can benefit all of its congregations.

Inter-Play Based Course:

Embodied Spirituality: Embracing the Fullness of Life
Columbia Theological Seminary, September 20-23

CTSThe Center for Lifelong Learning of Columbia Theological Seminary will offer an InterPlay-based course September 20-23 on the seminary campus. A global social movement, InterPlay encourages creative, expressive practice that reintegrates heart, mind, body and spirit and unlocks the wisdom of the body. Based in the ethic of play, instead of work, InterPlay offers simple, enjoyable, body-based practices for living with greater ease or joy even when life is hard. Leading the course is Debra Weir, a spiritual director, teacher, dancer, and certified InterPlay leader who has taught, performed, and led workshops for churches, conferences and retreats for more than 25 years in the U.S. and abroad.
