Check Out These New Resources Available in the CAP Resource Center!
Awesome Adventures: God's Amazing Kids Summer 2012 We Believe Curriculum This broadly graded 13 session curriculum (Kindergarten through 5th grade) will explore Old and New Testament stories of children and youth. Jake and Anna will lead your group of adventurers as they meet Isaac, Miriam, young Jeremiah, 12 year old Jesus, and more. Preview our copy and then order it from www.pcusa.org/webelieve ($44.95).
1 & 2 Chronicles for Everyone by John Goldingay Starting with Adam and then telling the story of humanity and the story of Israel through the exile, 1 & 2 Chronicles emphasizes the underlying claim that "a community that is faithful to God finds that God is faithful in return."
Jesus and His World: The Archaeological Evidence by Craig Evans The author presents archaeological discoveries that shed light on the world of Jesus of Nazareth. He uses these findings to uncover the truth about several key pieces of Jesus' world. Questions for reflection are available with this resource.
Open to Me the Gates by Gradye Parsons This book explores how gates are conceptually used throughout the Bible. These places of entry, found in Old and New Testament stories, are often metaphors for modern Christian beliefs and practices, such as justice and equality. This collection of readings- enhanced by hymns, a study guide, and questions for reflection- invites the reader to discover the many connections between the gates, what it means to be in a relationship with God, and how God would have us live every day. |

You have probably never thought about owning a goat. Now you have the opportunity! The plan is to raise enough money for 100 goats. Each goat is $50 US. Yet, this goat will be fed and cared for by needy Haitians in the Valley of Hope and on Cha Cha Mountain. During a recent trip with HUG (Haiti Under God), we met with Pastor Maxeau Antoine, a compassionate and dynamic man of God who cares deeply for his people. A vision he
shared with us was to enable rural people to have a sustainable living by owning a "fully loaded" (Haitian expression for pregnant) goat. Once the female gives birth, payment for the goat with be two of the female offspring - which Pastor Maxeau will share with another villager to raise. Within a year, these Haitian people will began to raise a goat herd that will sustain them with meat, milk, and an income. These are a hard-working, appreciative people. For the price of what it costs to buy a full tank of gas (or maybe a half of tank right now) in a car, a family in the Valley of Hope, where HUG has already built a church, or Cha Cha Mountain, where HUG is working to raise funds to build a church, can drastically improve their lifestyle.
Consider buying a "fully loaded" goat - or two or more. Encourage your friends and family members to do the same. Please either check out the HUG website: www.haitiundergod.org; or mail a check made out to Haiti Under God to me. Bon Dye Beni-ou (God Bless You! - Creole)

Presbyterian Pilgrimage Weekend May 3-6, 2012 - Camp St. Christopher
Looking for a way to renew your faith and spend some quality time with our Lord? Do you need to find a place of respite to restore your spirit and strengthen your commitment to His Church? Then the upcoming Presbyterian Pilgrimage May weekend may be the answer for you.
Presbyterian Pilgrimage (previously known as Presbyterian Cursillo) sponsors three-day spiritual renewal weekends based on the Reformed Tradition and in conformity with the Presbyterian Church (USA) Book of Order. The weekends are designed to strengthen the faith of individuals, and through them, to impact the environment in which they live, worship and work. Camp St. Christopher, located on Seabrook Island, offers an idyllic place to begin that renewal. Along with new friends, you'll enjoy incredibly good food for both the stomach and the soul.
So what might the outcome of a weekend mean for you? In response to the question, "As a participant, what did the Pilgrimage/Cursillo weekend mean for you?" one participant wrote:
I started to answer by saying "I felt invigorated . . ." but it's really much more than that. I felt, for the first time in a very long time, that Jesus really does love me. He knows who I am and is watching over me 24/7. He wants to have a personal relationship with you, and you don't even ask to ask; He is there always, watching over you. Not joining in that personal relationship no longer made any sense at all.
If you would like more information, please contact one of the individuals below or visit our website at: http://www.scpresbyterianpilgrimage.org/. Participant applications are available online or from the individuals below. Thanks to donors' generosity, the cost for the May weekend has been reduced to $275.00. Additionally, needs-based scholarships are available, on a limited basis.
Unable to attend in May
A second weekend will be held
at Camp St. Christopher October 4-7, 2012.
Put it on your calendar now!

April is Bethelwoods Month! Join Providence and Charleston Atlantic Presbyteries as we Celebrate Bethelwoods,
a Christian camp located in York, South Carolina,
that is owned by our two presbyteries!
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO? IT'S REALLY VERY EASY!- Designate one Sunday in April as "Bethelwoods Sunday!"
- Ask anyone who has ever been to Bethelwoods, kids and adults, to wear their Bethelwoods T-shirts to church that day.
- Show a slideshow of all the fun Bethelwoods activities (you can find a disk in the "Cookie Box" given to each church) and display flyers, camp schedules, and all kinds of information about Bethelwoods.
- Have your children's sermon center around camping.
- Use your Minute for Missions to talk to the congregation about this wonderful ministry our presbyteries are supporting.
- Have people who have been to Bethelwoods ready to answer any questions people might have.
There are TONS of things you can do to get our kids EXCITED about coming to camp! We can't wait to see all of you at Bethelwoods this summer! |
New Presbyterian Church at Cane Bay???
The Congregational development unit met at Cane Bay in March to see the property we own out there and to tour the community, meet with the developer and discuss ways we can begin work on this ministry in 2012.
This is a HUGE development with over 1,000 house already built and plans for at least 200 new homes each year for the next several years in the 4500 acre community. There is an active adult ( Del Webb) community with 500 homes already built and 500 more planned. We are the first faith community to own property there and it is important to come in "early". We are having a sign placed on the property and looking at ways to begin some form of ministry even with limited financial resources.
Please keep the CDU in your prayers and consider including NCD in your church budget in 2013. For information, contact Mike Fitze at drfitze@palmettopreschurch.org.
