New Resources Available
Galatians and James: Faith and Works by Carol Miller - These two small but mighty books form the cornerstone of the church's conversation about grace that has continued throughout its history. It can be offered as one thematic study of 11 sessions, or as two short, stand-alone studies (Galatians - 7 Sessions; James - 4 Sessions). Both portions are included in this study; offering excellent scholarly background and probing questions for participant reflection. The Leader's Guide CD-ROM/DVD offers strategies and teaching aids including session outlines, slide presentation for each session, short videos - "Meet Paul" and "the World of James."
The Gospel of Mark: Jesus - Powerful, Courageous, Trusting by Carol Miller - The portrait of Jesus we find in Mark is one of a powerful man, confident of his choices, but thoroughly trusting in God even as he faces persecution and ultimately death. Those who struggle in their discipleship are comforted to read in Mark's gospel how even Jesus' followers so often fail to understand the depth and breadth of Jesus' power and authority. Mark's words are an encouragement to uncertain disciples of all the ages to see clearly the path Jesus invites us to follow. 8 sessions. |
Older Adult Ministry Week: May 6-12, 2012 Older Adult Ministry Sunday: May 6, 2012
Still looking for great ideas to celebrate the contributions that older adults make in the life of your church?
Here are some ideas:- List on slips of paper names and birthdays of all homebound older adults/those who live in nursing facilities in your congregation and put in a basket, then pass them out among the congregation. Commit to keeping up with the person whose name you have pulled from the basket for the year, adding to your prayer list and remembering the person on his/her birthday;
- Encourage/work with the older adult group in your congregation to organize a 'Senior Prom' (or other kind of party) that showcases music/activities/style of dress from earlier eras. The Fellowship Hall could be decorated as if for a prom and all the older adults in your congregation could be invited with prom invitations.
Incorporate these and other suggestions into your spring worship, Christian education, and fellowship programs! The Nurture Unit |
