Greetings!
The Anawim Community thanks all who were able to be present for the work weekend. Their presence, hard work, positive spirit, and prayerfulness made it enjoyable and sucessful. We also thank those of you who although you were unable to be here supported us through encouragement, prayer, and donations. Thanks to Nan Koerner we have a beautiful afghan to be raffled off at our Blueberry Festival. Note the summary of projects completed and an update on Mary's Grotto and the Marian House extended stay program. |
Youth Center
Dry wall was installed on the second floor, the retreat supplies were organized, the fans, lights and windows were cleaned, the inventory of the pantry was completed, the freezers were defrosted, inventoried, and reorganized, and old documents were burned. |
Mary's Grotto:
Three volunteers from St. Marys, PA came midweek to cut down branches from the trees surrounding Mary's Grotto. On the weekend, over 15 dump truck loads of brush were hauled out. The Statue of Mary was washed and stone work was completed at the base of the statue.
NEWS: Progress on the Mary's Grotto continues - - donors continue to come forward with pledges toward the mysteries of the rosary, which will be etched in granite, and for the grotto itself. The construction of the grotto will be moving forward in the next few weeks. If you or anyone you know would like to contribute toward this project, please contact us by phone or mail.

Blueberry Bushes:
Saw dust was placed around the bases of the blueberry bushes and bee hives were brought in to help with the pollination. |
Blueberry Festival Preparations:
The flour and salt for the pie crusts were measured out and placed in Ziploc bags for 300 pies. The mix of flour, sugar, and cinnamon for the inner part of the pies were also measured for 300 pies. This makes the baking of 300-400 pies so much easier at the time of the Blueberry Festival scheduled for Saturday, July 24th 2010.

|
Garden:

The tomato plants were staked and treated to prevent blight, newspapers were placed between the rows for weed prevention, chicken wire was strung around the perimeter of the entire garden to keep the rabbits out, and spinach and lettuce were planted in the raised beds by the Youth Center.

|
Grounds:
Multiple bushes that had grown too large were transplanted to other locations on the grounds. The flower beds near the barn were weeded and made presentable.

Labyrinth:
All 300+ bushes in the labyrinth were trimmed and the branches and leaves collected and removed.

Marian House Extended Stay Program Update:
The renovation continues on the buildings on Reed Street to provide long term housing for 6 months to 2 years for women from the shelter who need and desire a long term program that will lead toward personal growth and independent living. The program is called "The Chrysalis Program" and is an extension of Marian House. It will address their educational, emotional, spiritual, physical, and social needs. The buildings are being painted from top to bottom this week as the final step before housing begins.

We thank all Extended Anawim members who were unable to join in the Extended Anawim Work Weekend but participated through their prayers and whose thoughts were with us that weekend.
Gratefully Yours In Christ,
Sisters of the Anawim Community
